it could be a grounding problem. It might be using the ground or +12v from the trim relay/motor, and when you are not running the thing, the ground or power is missing and you get no signal.Since it works when actually running the trim, it is unlikely the sensor itself is bad. You might check the many bullet connectors under the engine cowling to make sure one is not unplugged or loose.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
Bruce,You need to verify that you programmed the bars properly, which is why you need to hit the mode button twice, and look to see that the two side fo the multi function window display are idetnical. Right two numbers should match the left two digits. This sounds like a programming error ont he way up. And ifit is not, then it is the sender. Try regprogramming it, only takes a couple of minutes now as you know. While doing so check the digits. If the middle digits are miisfeeding the sending unit data to a higher coded level, then you defaul tot sgment #10 as you are now. Just use the dash as a tech instrument and you will figure it out.Sometimes you can space the sending unit center tighter and improve the signal without replacing it. BCB
Rich B. Analog or digital, and which sender does your engine have? Did it work and quit, or has it not worked? BCB
Analog gauge, not sure about sender, it is a 200 Opti. Gauge has never worked since I took delivery, about 3-4 weeks ago. Thanks BCB!
Check the sender to see if it a puck style with a notched flat activator. Or a different unusual style from analog. We have had a few come in as Digital and they require the analog sender. BCB
BCB, It is a puck style, with 2 wires coming out of it. It also has a small flat stem coming out of it, that fits in a small groove on the motor. Thanks !! Rich B
Probably the trim sender but could be something else too… What does it show? Normally if sender is faulty it will show trim numbers they just arent right……Sherm
Not showing anything but zero.
This happened to me as well.. If any of your trim switches have come loose or are connected improperly, the guage will not read right. On the front bow panel, my trim switches were reversed and one of the wires worked loose somehow and was hanging down… Go back through and make sure all the connections are good… if that is not the prob you may have a bad switch.
Thanks Mike will check all my trim switches:: ie Front Trim, Rear Trim on engine, Throttle handle trim, and my trim lever on column. It was working fine 2 weeks ago so something has rattled loose.
The main CANBUS line probably has a connector not fully engaged into the lock tab. IT should be visible in the maze of Mercury harnes under the console, or at the engine, under the cowl. BCB
Thanks BCB Ill check that one out tonight. Got to love this board, answers sure come quick.. Thanks everyone
Mine is acting goofy too… Went into the smartcraft manual and did the recalibration… Trim numbers are registering but I dont think its quite right… On previous boats the engine would be trimmed up to 4.0 and even higher when running WOT … trimmed out. Mine now reads 1.5 to 2.2 at the same speeds and trim angle. Maybe its right on this rig with the fury and the 8 in jackplate…
Mike The 09 hull uses less trim and the Fury has plenty of bow lift. Though you can recalibrate the gauge on SC systems if it is off.
I thought it might be the prop and hull… thanks, then new FTD is awesome… mine is running right @ 78-79 mph right off the assembly line (post break in of course).
