Yes, hold down the two buttons for accessing the programming mode, of usually the tachometer. Then work through the digital windows till you get to the programming mode. Do not go through without reading as on the final screen you will have the option to either EXIT or go to Screen 2. Screen 2 still has some data you might want. You can also turn off that Trip Pop UP screen that comes up when you hit the trim button, so you have to be on a trim screen to see the trim range. Often this has been a faulty trim sender and require replacement.

Thats a must if your running wide open…. Did you get the NexSysLink gauges? If so I bet the trim gauge is in there.

If you have NexSysLink then you can add it by plug and play. If you have Analog gauges it is not that much more difficult. You can set the second screen up on Analog and get that data with one button press. BCB

yes, I have the new gauges..So… I need to go buy one and then find a place to mount it and then set it up? Is there a recommended gauge?

You will need a new sending unit, and that is the small round puck on the left side which keys into the trim tilt pin. There are two 5/16″ headed screws (bolts) holding it. Two wires coming out of it also with one being a ground. If it is not still under warranty, which applies to the engine and parts, then you can sometime shim the inside coil keyway and put small amounts of pressure on it, extending the life. If its warranty, just replace it.

im glad this topic came up. im not getting a reading on the trim guage on my 94 PII. checked guage and its good. still have to check wiring, but ive looked around and cant seem to find the trim sensor on the motor. its a johnson 150 fast strike. any help on this matter would be appreciated.

well, the rig is a 94 PII silhouhette, 19 ft. it has an aftermarket analog trim guage. the motor is a 94 johnson fast strike 150 and has the fast trac power tilt and trim system.

The trim sensor is a paddle style under the saddle and inside the brackets. The analog style would be easy as you use an ohmmeter to chevk resistance and these usually run reverse of Merc. The gauge is usually the issue on older OMC engines.

It is probably a faulty sender and dont forget to isolate the ground. There is more info in the BP 101 manual.

Bad trim sensor and it is very common.
