My w/p gauge appears to be stuck on 10lbs whether the engine is running or not, idle or opened up. Any thoughts?
No that is not true. You can add either the Merc link gauge or a manual gauge. We do it all the time and offer either when they are new.
Is the matching water presure gauge something BCB would have in the parts dept. I would like to match the original gauges if possible. I would also like to do this install myself if its not to hard. I did my last motor myself but it was a “96” Mariner with none of the computer stuff. If it is as easy as just placing the plug in the top of the head like before. The old motor was pre-tapped with a plug. Then just running the tubing to the gauge in the dash it wouldnt be that difficult. Thanks for the help. JE
BCB can not sell Mercury parts direct, as those are a dealer item and a contracted OEM only part for BCB. We would get back in touch with the service center at the dealership and inform them that it can be done. We can sell those parts to a Merc dealer if they need them. BCB
You will have lower numbers at lower speeds. It is pressure driven, so the faster the higher the reading. 15 psi is okay at wide open throttle. Some like upper teens to 20s. I would make sure it doesnt go less than 14-15 at WOT.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
i just installed a yammy water pressure gauge for my vmax 150. ive got the gauge itself, and the light wiring all installed. however, i still need to run the hose. is the hose a “kit” , or simply a length of clear tubing? is this something i should get a professional to do to make sure its done right? any advise appreciated.
Not sure, never installed one…I would try to contact a local Yamaha service tech and ask for suggestions. Some one more knowledgable may be able to help shortly. Since this week is the Owner Invitational, the board will probably not be frequented by the staff as much. There is a lot to do for a 500-600 boat event this week. Good luck!96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
You didnt say what engine you were running, but, I run a 200 EFI Merc 03 and according to my tech it specs out at about the numbers you are giving. I had the same question and he said not to worry, it was right on spec. LashCat
Thank ye thank ye
The WP line is very small and pretty hard/rigid. Id guess something like 1/8″. The material is a nylon-type plastic that is not flexible. Its pretty rugged as you dont want that to break between the motor and WP gauge as you will pump a significant amount of water into the boat or dash or whatever. Ive installed a few on Mercs. Typically the kit uses compression fittings if you know what those are. Tiny brass fittings that slip over the line, then the compression fitting crushes that to lock the line into the fitting. You have to install a T fitting in a water line, usually you cut the one between the two cylinder banks, and put the T there. I have seen some with the T already installed and plugged, dont know whether the factory, the rigger, or what does that. I think the last water pressure gauge someone brought by to get some installation help came in a box with tubing included, but I might well be mistaken. Certainly your dealer would have em or can get em quickly. 15 psi sounds fine. I personally shoot for a minimum of 12 psi and have never burned a power head up. The higher you jack the motor, the easier it is to drop the water pressure too low. Particularly in long sweeping turns which can expose the water intakes on the sides to air. If you have the low water pickup version of the opti, you will be fine. If not, just watch the WP gauge in the turns to learn where/when/if the pressure drops off. My current boat has to be trimmed down a bit or pressure will drop all the way to zero. Wont hurt for a couple of seconds, but in a long sweeping turn, I could probably smoke the thing If I tried.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
i got a brand new yammy water pressure gauge on ebay for ten bucks. however, it did NOT come with a hose. i think i might let a pro handle this one, as i cannot locate a “hose kit” anywhere online.
That is a separate part from Yamaha and most dealers would have access to the parts.
how in the heck do you guys find time to visit this board this week?! go on, now…you have guests to attend to! good luck this week.
Not a difficult install and hardware should come in the dealership package.
Frozen water in the line perhaps.
