Its my understanding that the shaft on the Ulterra should not be shortened because the lift motor is calibrated to the length of the shaft.

I had the same problem on a 05 Puma. I solved the problem by taking an epoxy paste and filling in the area around the post from below the deck. The epoxy paste is the consistency of Vaseline and stays where you put it. Its been rock solid for almost three years now.
