old reliable for fishing with kids! catches everything that swims for about a buck a pop! (i remember when i could buy a card of ten for a dollar when i first starting fishing in the early 70s). still hard to beat that blue/yellow/white skirt with silver willowleaf blade around the shallow cypress tree-lined bayous of south louisiana!

i always felt that the PIII got passed over once the pro circuits increased the horsepower restrictions from the 150hp limit from the early days of bass tournament fishing. i still believe the PIII single console was the best all around tournament boat ever built…until they raised the hp limit. once the 20-21 footers took over because of the ability to run 225-250 hp motors, the 19 footers kinda became like dinosaurs, and got lost in the upgrade to bigger boats. some pros used to run a merc 150 with a high-five prop and push 65mph (loaded down)….at the time, that was flying. lots of move-around-in-the-boat room, great layout, and it could handle the great lakes or sam rayburn/toledo bend on their bad days. its nice to see some still around on the water occasionally. you never see them for sale, cuz their owners dont wanna get rid of them!

thanks mark, but it did not work. i tried twisting both ways, but it looked like it was stressing the joint. there is a seam down both sides that makes me think it was merely snapped into place with a locking hinge or something. i still dunno

do you think the back deck of an 02 sabre is large enough for this caddy? anyone out there using one…looks pretty neat. (i worry about long rods hanging over side and catching tree limbs, stumps, or dock poles) id love to hear from some of the fellas using this…especially in a sabre.

what a brilliant concept! and so simple. i can see many positives to using one. i worry about it gobbling up too much space on the sabre, though. the back deck on the 02s might be tight with one of the racks installed. ill have to check out the dimensions first….but i really like it. getting ready to install a powerpole i purchased. cant wait to try it out, too. thanks for sharing! tight lines to ya.

thanks, fellas. installing a powerpole. it will be attached to a nice stainless adapterplate that attaches to slidemaster jackplate. however, i got an extra foot control, and its gonna go somewhere up front, once i figure out exactly where to put it. happy thanksgiving, everyone! nothing like life in the south. limit of ducks in the morning, and a limit of reds and specks in the afternoon. the next day, same amount of ducks, but a limit of bass instead!

but if theres plenty of room, i prefer for boats to stay on plane. nothing aggravates me more than having a boat come to a barreling stop right before reaching my boat. the barge wake it creates is far more dangerous, to me standing on the deck, than the small wake created by a planed-out rig…so i just as soon have you speed on by at a safe distance, of course. now, if youll need to come within 10-15 feet of my boat, you can slow down some, yet still maintain your plane. folks, im sure, remember gerald swindle getting disqualified in the classic for running wide open within feet of another contestants boat as he passed thru a small area.. (irony was, the competitor/fisherman didnt care, it was actually his observer who complained to b.a.s.s. tourney officials, and he caught the incident on tape.) so much of your answer depends on the waterway thats being used. but the variables are many (skill of driver, size of boat, wind, traffic, size of waterway, etc.)

there are just too many variables to make a clear consensus on this. the bottom line is it still comes down to two basic things, COMMON SENSE and COMMON COURTESY. that applies if youre in a boat, in your car, on a motorcycle, or horse-drawn carriage, for that matter.

should i try to force it by hand, or do as i described (adding weight to one side while closed, with a spacer wedged in between lid and rod locker) and let time take care of it. the bow in the lid isnt major, just a little crooked now. also…should i store with lids open or closed (if closed, should i unlock latch). its garage kept, so weather is not a factor during storage. Reply: You can tweak it with any preferered method. We use a short 2×4 here to apply pressure when we need to twist one. Sometimes it is simple, and sometimes you have to be careful to not over twist it.Last edited by cajun catter on February 9th, 2009, 4:33 pm, edited 3 times in total.

got one on ebay for less than $1000 new (tournament prize). bought a bracket that mounts to my slidemaster jackplate from powerpole online, so i wont have to drill into transome. doesnt look that complicated to install. i fish mostly shallow water down here in louisiana, and have no plans on changing boats anytime soon, so i think it will be a good investment in the longrun. just have to put up with the wife (and fishing buddies) teasing me about MY THOUSAND DOLLAR ANCHOR ill post a photo when complete.
