ok so can you give me that contact info for part dept?
Wow that is impressive i sent an email to the parts department yesterday morning with several questions. I understand yesterday was Sunday but today is Monday businesses are generally open on Mondays. Anyways since the parts department was of no service to me maybe someone else will be willing to share some knowledge with me. Question 1. Where can I get exact matches for gelcoat colors. 2.Where can I get the factory drain assembly for the floor of the boat? 3.What are the dimensions of the seat that the basscat store carries? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah I didnt really mean to complain, Im just a little frustrated. Im tired of looking for parts that “may” fit. I want to get the phelix better than the original was. So far it has been a slow process because I work 14 on 14 off. When I bought it obviously it hadnt been taken care of in some time. First off i had to strip the boat down. Had to remove all the old rotten carpet… removed all the controls the motor which was grossly overpowered for the boat. Then i began preping the gelcoat for paint. There was considerable damage to the topside so i basically had to remove practically every bit of the old brown gelcoat. A lot of work went into it so im not to keen on the idea of putting some subpar paint back on there. I figure it is a Basscat and it should look like one. After i got done with the sanding and smoothing off the fiberglass i got everything all primed up. Since i got done with the priming I completely removed the floor and replaced that, and got that all smoothed out. Looks pretty good. I started this weekend on the fenders… It is crazy expensive to buy new ones. The starboard side fender was damaged pretty good, broke in a good 5 pieces I got it all together looks pretty good. Still got a long road ahead. I intend to completly get it right though I will continue to post pictures as i progress.
Ill take it sound like my dream job.
man i would love to have that job. i want to apply but not currently able to mail anything i work of the coast in the gulf of mexico. so i am wondering what is going to be the deadline for application? I would have no problem moving to “Gods country” the job itself sounds perfect like a dream come true.
wow i think im in love. Shame i cant afford that right now.
I found this on louisianasporstman.com… i posted on here to help the guy out. All i know is the guy is from Eunice La. If anyone is interested you have to call the number above.
That i realize i wasnt expecting basscat to have a garage full of old parts from the 80s. My point is I have messaged in the forum and was pointed in the direction of basscat parts. For example I was already told a seat could be custom made. I was trying to get ballpark prices of several things. Like for example a floor drain, seats, gelcoat: how much and what do i need…. should only be two colors… white and a shade of blue, wiring, a steering wheel and any ideas how to acquire the phelix logo for the side shell or a good picture so i can have one made elsewhere.. i never told anyone i talked to they had to be 1985 parts just comparable to what may have been there in 1985. everything else is self explaitory i am acquiring all i need as i get to it. i think most of my frustration was with the “family” more than basscat itself. i mean seriously $4000 for gelcoat work…. i even said i would supply the materials when i message him.
Well first thank you Ward obviously i am fairly new to the whole gel coat repair thing. I really do appreciate you taking the time to explain the procedure to me. Some people just assume that everyone else has all the knowledge they do. I just feel spending $4000 for a coat of paint isnt going to work. Any ideas on a cheaper alternative? I mean i still want it to look go im not talking kyrlon touch.
See thats the deal with the phelix the floor had one bad spot around the floor drain i did the glass work on that and got it looking good. the stringer is in good shape no faults there. The transom is pretty good shape only have one spot looks like the over touqued one of the bolts for the motor mount. No cracks or anything so its in pretty good shape. The trailer is a little rough but i working that out thats steel i can handle that i work offshore on a liftboat i am a professional at chipping, buffing, priming, and painting. The only other thing was the motor that came with it was grossly overpowered the transom is rated for a 75 it had a 115. i intend to sale that and get a smaller motor
Alright now that im back from work and we made it through Isaac. What steps do i need to take to get this boat ready to do a basic paint job?
finally got in gear on project phelix
update…. if anyone remembers me i had problems in the past but now im sitting about 99% done on the restoration of the phelix… called basscat for parts, very help fun and i am very grateful for such an awesone staff. She looks great and the discontinued decals that diligent staff was able to find for me just adds a little flare. i completely stripped her down to just the hull replaced strings, floor, carpet, painted, repowered her with a 55hp, reran remote controls, aeroator, bilge, new thru hull connections seats, lights, installed kill switch from battery… all i have left is a few minor adujustments and adding trolling motor and deth finder.
if someone will be kind enough for some instuctions ill post some pictures
