What motor do you have? Are those plugs solid? I’d try 3 medium size plugs, or remove 2 if all 3 plugs you have are solid. A 23 Tempest should be a rocket out of the hole at flush on the jackplate if it’s vented properly. I’ll guess low 60’s with a 150, and I would try to borrow a 24 Tempest with 3 medium plugs to try for more speed.
Not sure about the Fury 4, but I’ve heard people losing blades on it. I have a 26 Bravo 1xs that I really like on my Sabre FTD 175 Merc.
Thank you for the information. I’ll mess with the plugs and double check the jack plate position. As far as the fury 4 I’m really trying to not have to purchase another one. I think with the info you provided I may just find what I’m looking for with what I have. I look forward to hearing from more Sabre owners who have already tinkered with their props.
I just got home and check the prop plugs and JP height. the jack plate is set a smidge over 1/16” above level on the jack plate and prop is plugged with 3 large hole PVS plugs.
Would it be safe to lower the JP to level?
Im not sure if the boat came with medium plugs. I’ll look to see about ordering the other sizes.
So I ran my boat by myself today, full tank, moderate load, empty live wells. I ran the 23p tempest with all three large plugs in with my jack plate still set at 1/16” above level. The best I got was 56mph at 5600-5700 RPM
Fury 4 ran 60 at 5500 with a little more to spare with same load and full tank. The fastest I hit with the fury 4 was 62 mph. I didn’t see my response rpm because it starts to chine. Still trying to work thru the chine.
Yes I agree something is not right. The tempest 23p basically feels like it’s maxed out at 55-56MPH. The day my prop threw a blade a prop guy looked at it at the docks and mentioned I got lucky the shaft was not damaged. And all he did was spin the prop. I’ll maybe take the prop to the shop and get it checked.
Can you explain steering torque? I don’t think I’ve witnessed it. I feel like I can turn pretty easily. I usually trim down during turning for better bite.
As far as water pressure… is 15-20 psi considered good pressure running at 5500 RPMs?
Ok thank you very much. I’ve never really noticed the steering torque I will pay more attention to it next time I head out. In the meantime I’m going to have a shop check the integrity of my prop as well.
Ok I will check where the motor is mounted as soon as I can. And as far as trim, I’ve heard of over trim. How would one know if the motor is over trimmed?
Ok here is a picture of my mount and jack plate. I’m already scheduled to send my prop out for reconditioning and balancing this week. Also ordered is a new brand new torq hub and medium PVS plugs. My gear oil appears to be within normal limits.
