Tx76 I run a ford dealership and as mentioned already Ford has had its share of problems with previous diesel engines 6.0 and 6.4. With that said the 6.7 liter has been an absolute wonderful motor. We have a number of customers that have blown by 100,000 miles within a couple of years and I have never seen any motor with more positive feedback than we get with this engine. We do a lot of business in the oil and gas industry and believe me these guys will put a truck and motor thru the ringer. If you get a chance to talk to a current owner they will have great comments on their trucks. Most of the problems Ford and other manufacturers have had with diesel engines were related to emission issues that were forced on the manufacturers about 10 years ago that caused a lot of re-designs to meet federal standards.Ford made a move about 4 years ago to bring the engine design back in house and away from international and brought the 6.7 out in 2011.The exhaust fluid that is used on newer diesel engines is not a big deal we see on average about a gallon per 1000 miles and you have a 5 gallon tank.I for one would highly recommend a 6.7liter diesel and it will look great with a bass cat behind it.

Hey Mark,The main thing is to be diligent on maintenance.High pressure oil pumps, coolant leaks, radiators. The 6.4 was much improved over the 6.0,but still see some issues that are common. If you have an extended warrenty good if not engine and drive train are covered for 100,000.We see more issues from guys that just run trucks hard and are lax on maintenance and that is not good. Most people that are not making a living with truck and mostly pulling toys do not normally have major issues.

The 2013 explorer will tow 5000lbs with the 3.5 v6 or the 3.5 eccoboost. Both are great models, but I think you are right about the 3.5 Ecco boost only being availed on sport package. The expedition would be closer to what you are accustomed to with the size of suburban.
