whe n u get no water in well s 2 pepole asome but this weekend me and 2 other pepolpe got in and it was terrible on my 2000 cougar with 250 pro xb 26 fury
I will hopefully be breaking in an 09 Puma FTD with Mercury 250 Pro XS next weekend. I will also be using a 26 Fury and will report my number to you next Sunday evening. Corky
They sure could have helped! Meaning bringing it to the Invitational. The answer for your skiing is to run a smaller propeller for that. Some like Mr Whitten tend to try the High Five. Others run a 24″ trophy. BCBLast edited by Bass Cat Boats on May 3rd, 2009, 12:44 am, edited 1 time in total.
They sure could have helped! I can get them if that is what you mean?
for skiing try a 24 bravo 1 with dual pvs holes! I ran a 28 the other day and a hydromotive which is a bravo knockoff. They both were unreal on holeshot. They were to big for me but i have a 26 going to have the dual pvs, extra cup,up on pitch and will have it back hopefully late next week. they say it will even be faster out the hole than the others and they were bad on holeshot. I could rev 4500 on the big hydro out the hole and it was like i was shot out a cannon compared to my other wheels.
shop that I can test props…..but would like to find the right combo….I can start a collection and the best part is I have 6 months of winter to polish them…..lol Doug what was your RPM reading stock prop when you got the boat out of the hole….that first plateau before it started to climb gradually from getting on plane..I think the jump to 4500 would make a world of difference for me. I am still not sure if lowering the motor would help or hurt it. I am going to do some compression tests just to eliminate that as well..
The bravo and hydros would rev 4000 before going up. the fury was at 3100. i just drilled some more holes in it. I drilled 3 each 1/4 inch holes just above the pvs holes. I put the others beside the pvs at the recommendation of a couple of prop guys. I was going above then. seems to me closer to the back of the blade the easier to get it to break loose. If i get to much i can work with pvs holes or i will weld them back up with my nifty tig wwelder. i will make me a 3 blade that has the holeshot i want and the top end. Mine is fine with 1 person, full of fuel wells full. its ok 2 people fuel full and no well water. add the well water and its ok but slow to me. i like instant holeshots and i will get there sooner or later. i have 2 tempest at 2 different prop men now. I know the bravo will get me where i want on holeshot but i will lose 2-3 mph top end with it. thats ok when i got to go ultra skinny or pulling the kids what ever. but i want an above avg holeshot with the 3 blade and keep my topend. I thnk to if i had a hydro plate i could start out higher and go down as i plane off would give me some extra cavitation. that is coming next week probably!
Okay some improvement today. 54 degree water in a smaller pond, I went down 1/4 inch with the jack plate. Boat hit 3400 or so instantly and then moved up from there in fact it moved up quicker then my Trophy plus by a long shot. On plane to 70 is quick with the fury…I ran out of water from there. On a count it was about a 1005 or 1006 to plane off…..I would still like to see better is it reasonable to believe that another 1/4 might help? Steering torque was a little better but still not a problem and like the Trophy it does not start chine walk until 70 mph or so…RPMs were still good my book says limiter is at 6250 and at 70 mph I was still only around 5400….and plenty of trim left. Did notice water pressure was about 25 seemed the highest I have seen it but may not have been paying attention to it before at those speeds except to be sure it was not low on the gauge…. I did the compression test and as I suspected all is good 110 even in all 6 not a variance on any…. One thing also I have a 25 Tempest plus here 3 blade on an R boat I am selling for a customer, any opinion if I should try this? BCB what would it cost me to install a Hydraulic plate on this boat roughly and other then running the control in the boat is there other hardware that needs to go in the boat if I use a detwiller that is all self contained? Also what model is recommended and what advantage to the size and the set back? Thanks for all the help I am now officially into trying to get this thing dialed in…..Last edited by Mark5795 on May 3rd, 2009, 11:58 pm, edited 2 times in total.
Looking about 1500 installed is what most have told me. can buy one yourself and install in an hour or two for a grand or just over from what i am seeing. I would try the tempest to see how it acts. i wish you were closer we could get together and work on it. i know I am nuts but i spend half my days off playin with other peoples stuff. Saves me from playin with mine on those days thus saving me money!
Like me I am sure you are frustrated having to wrench it each time I know the day I order my next Basscat it will definately have a Hydraulic Plate on it…Did you find any info online for installation? I wish you were closer as well then you could teach me a thing or two as well. What speed do you see your chine walk and how long does it last in MPH?
Needs more propeller ventilation and we have not run a 26 Fury on a 250 Pro XB. We dont get to play with older rigs and newer wheels often. BCB
how do u fix it
if all the plugs have been pulled on the prop and it bogs from the load, then the only solution is to drop down in pitch, remove weight from the boat, or wait for cooler weather.
I ran a 250XB on a 2003 Cougar FTD, and it ran best for me with a 25″ Trophy year-round. I was carrying a heavy load and the 25″ Trophy was my best set-up; good hole-shot and acceleration. I plugged all four holes completely. The guy I sold it to ran a 26″ Trophy (I gave him the choice of props), and liked it; he was running a much lighter load and was half my size, and lived in California…Good Luck and like Phil said, drop the pitch…Gary Hollander
i have a hyd plate and i have to run it all the way up to get it wound up and then it blows out
