I tend to run it on high when Im shooting across the water and its the high speed impacts that do me in. If your bending these shafts when running on high power, then the MinnKota is not gonna be your answer either, there is no way any troller is going to be able to stop the momentum of a boats full weight when hitting an immovable object something is going to give, and that is generally will be the weakest link (your trolling motor). Motor guides do bend and minnkotas do “break”. It happens. Take your time going thru the stump fields and pay attention to where the stumps are is the only way you are going to save your trolling motor.
It is about 70% MotorGuide and 30% MinnKota now. Both have their issues and a bent shaft will run, whereas a broken shaft will not. MK has had some motor or other issues this year and MG seems to be through those except for the PinPoint Ready (transducer) models. MK is better inthe grass significantly. We have no preference and offer both.
Oh stop being so politically correct BCB! LOL Im just kidding. The best guys to talk about this are the independent service guys. Mine has a no doubt which is better and more reliable choice.
Which ever you end up with, the best insurance to having a great weekend is to buy a back up trolling motor. You can find them on line or at your local dealer for a very reasonable price. Even if it is very old and not near as good as the primary, it beats the heck out of waiting for someone to finish fishing for the weekend to repair yours. I found a 2004 65 lbs thrust for $150.00 with a 20.8 mount. I have also started replacing my own shafts, it is very simple and you will save up to a $100.00+ bucks. I can pick up a 45″ shaft for $50.00 and fix it my self. ElwoodElwood…..Bass Cat Proud
Contact [email protected] they will fix you up. Judd Lasiter
I would also bet that you could find something that would work at the local hardware store!
I had same problem on my 2002 classic, and a few of the screw holes had stripped out. I contacted basscat, and they sent me a new set of grommets and screws for for both windshields. They also recommended using small bolts/nuts in the holes that were stripped out. That worked great, and my windshield is holding tight and does not rub the boat anymore. Hope that helps. Thanks all for your help. I thought it was just dirt on the console behind the glass until I took it off. The finish is scratched pretty bad so I just finished with a good coat of wax. Not sure it will help until I fix the problem. Again thanks and will call parts.
They will handle the parts kit for you! [email protected] BCB
It will be the Jaguar. The Jaguar name carries the “top of the line” billing well. But it will be a different handling/performance characteristic type boat. The Jaguar name was retired with the understanding (as I remember) that when it would be brought back, it would once again assume the top of the “food chain”.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
Currently the Puma FTD is the “Flagship” of the line, and there are two versions of the Puma, as well as two versions of the Cougar, all sharing the same hull. Then the P4, P2, Classic, Sabre FTD, Sabre, Phelix, etc,,,and of course the Bay Cat, being the largest of the line. But make no mistake, for now at least the Puma FTD is the top dog of the company ! D.
Yep, the Puma FTD is top cat…for now. When he brought up the Jaguar name, I figured he was looking at the future. And we all know that will be the Big Cat of the Pride!96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
You both are right. The Jag will be the biggest bassboat yet that BCB has released. As Rick mentioned in the Skiff post it is HUGE!!!! So the Jag will be the flagship based upon price and size…but that shouldnt or wont take away from the Puma FTD, Puma and Cougar FTD those will still be premium boats not to mention the baddest boats. Well until they surprise us again and I know it is going to happen because just when I think how can Rick, Ron and crew top this one they always do. The Jag is not going to be a boat for everyone but it will fill a spot in the market that many people have asked for over the years. I personally have no need nor desire for a boat that big but there are some that have it in their heads if it isnt 21ft it isnt big enough. Well I have this funny feeling they are about to get big enough Judd Lasiter
Its gonna be a BIG boat, in the works now, and should be late winter / early spring introduction. BCB has several projects in the works now, and 09 will be an exciting year ! Ron was rumored to have drawn a circle on the front deck of the new Jaguar, and said that would serve as the heli-pad ! http://basscatowners.yuku.com/topic/6629?page=1
Yes Sir Mr. D, ? Im sure there will be a lot of changes! Good Luck, Chuck
