Thanks Phil, What size replacment prop would you reccomend? Thanks
It ran about 70 but I dont know the rpms. It also was lightly loaded when it ran 70. I dont think Ive ever seen the 73 or 74 range I see others talking about. Is 1/4 inch above flush with the inside of the jack plate correct?
I wasnt worried until I spoke to this guy who was running the 26. I thought Id seen others say they ran it and I thought the 26 was actually the prop that BCAT reccomended on this setup. Maybe they will answer. Thanks
OK, I may see if i can stop the order and change it to a 25. Thanks for the help
Ok, I got the 25P prop ordered and Im going to start at flush with the jack plate once I get it installed. A fellow I know that had this same boat told me Id have to put 2 solid plugs and 2 medium hole plugs in your PVS holes on your prop to prevent slippage when he boat breaks over coming out of the hole. does this seem areasonable for te 25P on a 225 Pro XS? Thanks
Not sure if this is your problem but did you idle for awhile and then turn the motor off by chance? Ive been told this could cause the motor to overheat in some of the XS series. You idle around, then shut the water flow off and crank it back quickly and the temps on the gauge will go up until the water is pumped back to the motor. I had this happen to me and two dealers told me it was normal. they called it heat “sync” or something like that. The highest Ive seen in this situation is around 175 degrees. It worries me but Ive been told it isnt hurting anything although I wonder what it would do in a warranty situation when its been recorded on the computer as being hot. Of course I wouldnt have ever known if not for the Smart Craft gauges.
OK, thanks all. 1. I was hitting the 5800 rpms just a couple of weeks ago and it was hotter then than today. I thought I should be closing in on low 70s with a partner, gas etc. with this set-up. I hit 70 by myself before changing props but lost about 4 mph when adding partner. Ill probably lose some moe when I fill the livewells. By the way the hole shot seemed better today also. 2. BCB, what are you suggesting? Is this something any Merc mechanic can do? 3. I still dont have an excess of steering torwue. Would you go up or down from here? 4. Ill look for a tempet to try. Thanks everyone.RJ
JW Good fishin partners are hard to find. Ill settle for sub 70 before I kick you out. Plus youre fixin to get a new 09 Puma. Be a bad time to get rid of a partner. RJ
Will taking the motor back up help get the rpms back up? I have seen it hit 5850 before I lowered the motor? I understand from your feedback that the sweet spot is different depending on each boat and the characteristics of the prop and other things impacting setup. But in theory what is ideal? Do you want to have some steering torque, no rooster tail, some rooster tail etc? Just looking for something to shoot for. Im going raise the motor 1/4 inch above flush and see what happens. . How much time does it take to check the bore and inspect the ports? I wish Id have known that earlier as I just had it in for the 100 hour service and you know what its like to get in to the dealer this time of year. Thanks for all the help. RJ
Great job Ike on the win. I agree with CB2structural. I was actually there on Friday too but didnt get to fish as I was helping a buddy break in a new Cat. You could say the conditions were less than optimal at best. Pretty stiff 10-15 mph North to North east wind. We saw Ike fishing in Nutbush and watched him for awhile and I tell you it was amazing to say the least. I know all of the pro guys fish hard but Ike was a machine. Ive never seen anybody fish that hard in person before. He never took a break and we watched him for a good while. By the way… the New Puma FTD rode great. The break in period has you turning from 4000 to 5400 rpms which is a pretty fair clip on the 250 XS. We managed to get all of the time in even on the white caps and the ride was fantastic. Really smooth even in the rough water. Great boat BCB. Thaks RJ
4 minutes for feedback. Not bad. I appeciate the quick response. Now, I think Ill have enough time to finish installing it tonight make connections tomorrow and have plenty of time to be back on the water Saturday. You cant get that kind of help out of any owners manual nor most help lines. Thanks RJ
ACDM27C, Group 27DC w/ Top Post SAE/EN/JIS, 1060, 125 reserve , || The batteries are these AC Delcos. One had a born on date as 12/07 and 01/08. I installed them in April. The older one takes 20-30 minutes longer to charge. Its a 82 lb MGUIDE Digital. Could the shelf life of these batteries be the problem? My buddy has a 36 volt 101Mguide with Wal Mart batteries and hes still cruising at the end of the day. Thanks
Is there a link somewhere that gives a past itinerary for the OI? My buddy and I are considering a trip from NC but I need to understand more about the OI before committing to the drive. Can you tell me something about hotel availability, the lake being fished, practice times, costs or anything you know that would help me make up my mind. Anybody else from NC going? thanks RJ
Dont think I can check the cells as it is a maintenance free battery. However I thoughtIi read somewhere on here one time that you could tell if the battery was bad based on how much the voltage dropped over night. I searched the archives but couldnt find that article. Does anyone remember the numbers?
Missed that date. Thanks
