Has anyone played with longer rods for crankbait fishing? When Dudley won earlier this year he stated that you needed to use at least a 710″ rod, with 8 being better. He also stated to go with at least a Medium Heavy action. There are not many crankbait rods that long, almost sounds like a swimbait rod to me. I dont have either, but something I am considering picking up in the off season. I use a 7 M BPS Cranking stick for my bigger cranks. It is a cheap crankbait rod ($40 on sale, $60 not), but seems to work for me. They make a 76″ model I am thinking of picking up. As for hooks, I also like Gamas, but I have been using Owner Stingers for replacement hooks this year. They claim that since they dont have the weld line that they help cranks run straiter. Dont know about that, but they are super sharp and seem to hold.Last edited by Hawghunter on September 17th, 2008, 2:29 pm, edited 1 time in total.
That is an interesting spin on this. It doesnt make a lot of sense to me to try to keep an event like this away from any area of the country right now. These events really help the local economy in a major way. The $$$ brought into the area by these events just keep cycling through the area, so it is a win for everyone in that area in a very tough economic climate. I have heard the one about these guys being ticked off about the COs being cancelled. There were a few that made a pretty nice chunk of change on these events. I doubt we have heard the last of this one. They did get some press on the event, but at least in the bass fishing community, it isnt good press.
It is still early. I have 4 in the top 10 and 7 in the top 21. But have been here before and it didnt work out. I need to end up with 5 in the top 10 today to have any chance. I have Thrift winning, to do really well he has to win (he is in 19th after day #1). Doesnt really matter where they finish at today, as long as they are in the top 10. The event starts over tomorrow with 10 anglers.Last edited by Hawghunter on February 13th, 2009, 4:31 pm, edited 1 time in total.
I have the league lead, until tomorrow that is…3 in the top 10 with 2 exactas…Tomorrow the top 10 will start fresh and places will change….When John Tanner was weighing in I was going be 18, be 18….He went 19-6, 8 oz more than Ehrler, my 4th top 10 angler dropped to 11th….Should be a good show the next 2 days though…Fantasy wise, lots of people with 3 or 4 in the top 10. Will come down to the last man weighing in to decide the League title.
If you can get it…From what I have heard only those in the NE part of the US (near ESPN headquarters) get this service.
Bet everyone on my team sacks 15 today…maybe that is everyone in the tournament though….I need Ike to have a good event, come on IKE!!!!
I use a product called Sea Foam. Use it in my boat, my truck, my lawn mower (lol). Seems to work better and do more than Stabil does, at least IMO. In this area the only place I can find it is OReilly Auto Parts.
I think this is just a lottery type of game for the FLW championship. Pick the top 5, in order, and win a lottery jackpot of 3 million $$$. They are not running the Fantasy game along with the championship. Instead, they are sending the top 10 overall finishers to Pittsburgh and announcing the top 10 prizes winners at one of the weigh ins. As a side note, the FLW BassCat league winner did finish inside the top 43 for the year, no word where in the top 43 yet (we are in the same Club and have fished team events together). I was 2nd in the league (after hitting my only exacta in the last event and moving up from 11th) and finished just inside 800th overall for the season. It was a fun year playing again this year. Thanks to BassCat for sponsoring the League again. It really adds to the fantasy game and gets the BassCat name out to those that play it, and those that do not. The hats given out (I didnt win one of these this year, but have a few from last year) are a great conversation piece at Club meetings and those that spot them on the water or while just shopping at Bass Pro. Although the boat sales guys at Bass Pro dont like to see them (lol). Thanks again Bass Cat!!!!Last edited by Hawghunter on July 21st, 2009, 5:36 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Thanks for the update BCB. If you need anything from me, let me know (if you use the addresses I sent you, please use the Texas address, not the Nebraska address, we have officially moved). Hopefully 1st place will be a hat, 2nd place will be a new Jag….Bassin8r has already won enough gift cards and prize packs this year, plus until I hear from you I can at least dream (lol)…
It wouldnt surprise me to be running in a Cat in 4 or 5 years time. One disaster at a time though. At this point I am a Husker in the land of Longhorns, and am just trying to get settled in (lol).
Word is that Fork is being hit pretty hard right now as well. Has anyone heard reports about trailers being stolen? I understand that they are stealing trailers from parking lots, selling them for scrap. You not only have to lock the trailer hitch, but the trailer ball as well. Hard times make people desparate.
I have the Mossback, Yellow and Amber Solar Bat lenses. I typically wear the Yellow ones early, the Amber ones as the day progresses, back to Yellow at dusk. I havent used the Mossback ones all that much (won them in a raffle 5 years ago or so). The MoassBack Gradients sound interesting (transitions from yellow to mossback and back). That would be the pair I would buy if I was in the market.

Classic is getting pretty close. Duckette to take 2? Ike to make up that 1lb that he needed to win both FLW and BASS titles last year? Will Klein finally win one? I have narrowed my list down to 25, good thing the game isnt open yet.
Not only did hengmfrm win the BCB league, but also the overall for the Delta. Great job!!!!The point total it off a bit, but I dont think it will change anything for hengmfrm if they correct it. The bonus points are off for the results. Browning should have received 10 bonus points for leading days 1 and 2. Hackney 5 for leading day #3. Crews 5 for leading day #4. I dont think any received the bonus points in the game results, but for some reason Kriet did get 5. I emailed ESPN, but not sure if/when they read their emails. Again I dont think it will affect hengmfrms BCB or overall win. I would rather have the BCB hat than an Autorgraphed Team Toyota Jersey, but winning both is a positive. Good to see Crews win his first event, and by just an ounce after boating a 5lb fish on his last cast. How good is that!!!!
The AOI standings are getting tighter as well. From BassFan:After Muskogee, the Top 12 in the points move on to fish the BASS post-season, while the Top 37 receive a guaranteed berth in the 2011 New Orleans Bassmaster Classic. After the regular season ends, BASS “simplifies” the points by moving the decimal points one place to the left and rounding to the nearest whole number. Two bonus points are also awarded for the win. If the season ended today, the Top 12 points would thus look like this: 1. Skeet Reese — 186 (includes 4 bonus points) 2. Edwin Evers — 176 3. Derek Remitz — 167 4. Brian Snowden — 162 5. John Crews — 163 (includes 2 bonus points) 6. Terry Butcher — 161 7. Cliff Pace — 160 8. Kevin VanDam — 152 (includes 2 bonus points) 9. Aaron Martens — 154 10. Greg Hackney — 153 11. Bill Lowen — 151 12. Gary Klein — 151 Points for the two post-season events are awarded on a scale of 5-point increments based on finish – 50 points for a win, 10 points for 12th.Although that last statement is not accurate. Thinking they must change the point increments after 5 spots or so if 50 points are 1st place and 10 points are 12th. Either way the 2 post season events in Alabama look to be interesting. Especially if Reese continues to prove he is human after all this week. There for a while it looked like Reese would be taking AOI victory laps at the Alabama events.
