Tyler-Can you send pics to 515-370-2395? Thanks,Jared
You may want to check out the ultrex MK is coming out with. the spot lock would come in very handy if fishing open water or have a breakoff in windy conditions.
Im thinking jpeiserich is correct. 40-45 range, but the margy is very weight sensitive. You start adding power poles, 24v TM, a friend, and a livewell full of water and you may not even hit 40 with only a 90HP on it. I will say the front deck is very open with plenty of room on the margay. Its just as nice to fish from up front as some of the little bit bigger basscat models. Im currently still working on dialing mine in for top speed under a full load condition, but will get there eventually.
I have a Basscat Margay currently and would love to see some kind of 3600 or 3700 series tackle storage system that could be bought and installed in the rod storage box. I would prefer something that fit in the 8 rod section as I dont use really long rods. The side storage areas are small and honestly you put a couple life vests in one and they are full. The rod box is huge and has plenty of room for a tackle storage area plus a half dozen rods…. Something made to custom fit in there and fit standard plano boxes would be great!
My Margay is about $25 per month, so does seem a little high. I dont know how much the horsepower of the boat makes a difference though.Jared
I have a 2016 Margay with a 150 4 stroke. have a 80lb fortrex up front. 1 guy (200lbs) can hit about 61mph. With 2 guys (500lbs) I hit 55mph. with 3 guys (700lbs) and livewells could only muster about 38mph (struggles to get to pad). This is with a 24p Fury prop. Have since purchased a 23p tempest to try out as soon as ice is gone. We will see what it does, but hoping to see better results all around as I wasnt even reaching 5800 rpm with the fury prop… If youre not as worried about top end speed as carrying a heavy load I would think either motor would work well. Your prop pitch is going to make more difference than anything. you may be able to get a different prop for your 115 that will work for more people, but again youre going to lose some top end speed.Jared
John-I have also spent the winter figuring out how to “lighten up” the load on the boat, especially up front. from my looking up, a motorguide x3 70 weighs about 30lbs less than my fortrex 80 I have. Thats the biggest thing Im going to check out hopefully in a couple weeks is how it performs with less weight from the TM up front. Also am in the process of cutting down my tackle amount for the boat. Making a dedicated system with minimal amounts of tackle needed instead of taking 5x what I really need. Will just have to check the tackle after every use instead of once a month to make sure I have what I need.Jared
Looking at amazon.com, maxxum 80 has actual weight of 45lbs with ship weight of 66. fortrex 80 shows ship weight of 68 but does not show actual weight. Motorguide x3 shows actual weight of 27 lbs and ship weight of 44. so 18-20 lbs difference there right up on the nose. my understanding is every 10lbs on the front of the boat is 1mph, so just the TM weight difference and also an extra battery in back could be costing me between 2-3mph on my setup. Of course I really like the fortrex, so dont know if I will switch or not at this point… part of my testing this spring will be removing my fortrex head to similate the less weight of the motorguide being up front and see what it does. Thanks,
John-I have to agree. I can get the bow to come up just fine on takeoff and getting up on pad, but once up on pad I feel like the bow is way too low and not lifted enough. Doesnt matter what I do I cant get the nose to lift up more. Instead of being nose up some it feels like its sitting level from front to back while going 55mph instead of having the front end up higher. Like I said Im changing props and had this new one blueprinted letting the prop guy know I need more lift out of it. We will see what she does in a few weeks!Jared
Midnight-Add the stripper pole to the trailer if you havent already yet. At 65, it will be one of the best parts of the new boat. Wish I had it on my Margay and Im 34! My friends cougar has it and in my opinion is a must for the small price difference it is. You may want to check on the Helix 7. If you are wanting to link them together, I think the helix 9 is smallest that can be linked? I could be wrong, but thought I had read that a couple times… Otherwise everything is what Id want in my next boat, which Im really looking forward to seeing the new pantera classic. It may be just what Im looking for… although it will be a number of years and a yes from my wife… Thanks,Jared
Good price with the updated electronics. Had I not bought a new boat last fall I would be contacting you on this one…Jared
Midnight-G2N may have it on the 7. Generation 1 is what I had done research on.
Midnight-Sounds good. I bought a helix 5 before finding out it wasnt network compatible. glad to see I can go for a 7 now and network it. something I want to get as checking piles on SI is easy and then can go up front and go right to it also.Jared
I was using the oldsr style high profile shimanos.went to lews pro magnesium with the 7.5:1 ratio. By far better. Smoother reel, drag is also smooth. The tension adjustment is the best option as you can set the reel once and basically make slight adjustments pending on wind as you go. Only downside I have is casting distance is a little less i would say over other brands. Not a deal breaker for me as am mostly a jigging guy. I would think you could get a team lews non magnesium for 150 or so. The magnesium model is 230 on ebay from some suppliers. Not going to get a magnesium of any other brand for that.
I was thinking they were talking mid to high 40s with the 115 Pro XS? I have a 150 4 stroke and can get 55mph with myself and another guy. have a 24v trolling system, 475lbs between 2 guys, empty livewell. I will get low 60s with one guy in same setup. The margay seems to be weight sensitive, at least with the 150 4 stroke it is.Jared
