Nice Margay!!
Thats what I have, the MKA-21 is for the Ulterra.
Im looking at doing the same thing with my Margay. I want to replace the Helix 5 in dash with at least a 7. According to BCB this is the max size in dash that will fit. Laying on the floor and looking under the dash, I cant even get a hand on the back of the graph now to remove it and was wondering what you guys did. Im thinking it may be better if I remove the console and try getting it apart that way. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
Never mind. I got a better look and see that theyre only in there with adhesive..
Thanks BCB!OT 57, youre right. The L9 is only a couple inches larger than the H5 I have in the dash now since the Lowrance is just the cutout for the back of the unit not the whole perimeter like the bird.
Chvy, thanks for the picture. Is that mounting angle tapped into the jackplate clamp? (black piece) That means it would move with any motor height adjustments. Is it flush with the hull or the step?Ill check the link Toledo posted and see what they suggest. Thanks again.
Jared,Would you mind posting a picture of your dash? Id like to see the mounting bracket youre referring to.Looking again, I have doubts about the Lowrance 9 and will have to pull out my H5 to verify. Also need to look for interference with anything behind the cut out area, not just the room on the front. The Margay dash is pretty jam packed looking from underneath.

It is a little wider than the Humminbird 787c that apparently came with the boat, and it is also a little shorter. But the screen is significantly bigger without all those bubble switched buttons on the side. Touch screen has its advantages. I am getting used to them and am becoming a bigger fan every day. The Navionics map is not as good as lake master, but it is not bad. Humminbird did high-def scans of every lake I have tried it on, and that is shore-to-shore. Navionics seems to be decent resolution, but leaves off the shoreline/pockets/creeks pretty much completely. Im glad you commented on the difference in map quality with the Navionics, definitely something to consider but agree the touchscreen is the way to go. Ive been using HBs for a long time and kinda fed up with them of late.

Transducer Shield and Saver makes sure you have everything you need as far as the “L” bracket, mine needed a spacer so that the transducer was lower, and the transducer mount itself. Any questions and they will answer. I just added a Helix Mega to my boat and had tried to order a new mount online. The order failed. Within 30 minutes I got a call from the company saying they saw where I had tried to place an order and they would help me with what I needed. Fantastic customer service!Yes, I took your advice and sent them an email last night and got a reply today. They want me to double check the JP size. They show a 4″ not a 3″.Im going to do it myself as well. Just need to decide on which Graph & xducer. When you mounted yours, is it slightly lower than then hull step, assuming its a bass boat.
Thanks for the advice. I removed the air scoop last night and I think thatll make it easier to get a hand on the tape as its fed down there. Gonna need the wifes help though and we work together like Moe and Curly.. Appreciate your support!
MD & King,Fortunately I have a HF right down the street from where I work. I din;t think of looking there for wire pulling needs and ended up buying a steel tape from Lowes thats now going back. I didnt jump on the $100 fiberglass one. Thanks for the detailed procedure MD! Maybe I can let Curly do her things then, LOL
Yes sir!Thanks
A quick thanks to those that commented and offered help on this.I appreciate the detailed list that MD posted, especially his suggestion to pull and spare rope for the future too! This is one of those things I would have thought of after it was back together! The transducer wires were a little struggle but I had the best success pushing a steel tape to the transom from the hole behind the shifter.Im glad to report Im sporting a new Echomap Plus and was out on the lake with it this weekend. Thanks guys.
