I am no expert, but I believe the Side Imaging system is designed for low speed. Using your menu to select 100 MHz transducer only may solve the bottom lock problem. I dont have a 797, but a 787 but it intermittently breaks lock on my P II at about 50 MPH. I have a flasher which provides accurate reading at speeds greater. As I read these posts it occurred to me that using the single beam may preclude losing bottom lock at speed. I hope to go fishing tomorrow and try the single beam and will let you all know.

One of the nice things about the Opens, if you wish to you can find one of the competitors to prefish with and they are there sometimes a week or more prior since prefishing is not limited to the two and a half days prior to the event. All it will usually cost you is gas money and you can get a pretty good idea of what the fish are doing without having operate your own boat and drag it all over the country. If you meet and fish with one of the regulars, quite a few of the elite guys fish the Opens, you may make arangments to prefish other events on the trail also. I have fished both the Elites and Open as a co-angler and I enjoyed it very much. Good luck!!

A permanent (almost) fix is to use plastic coated clothes line wire. It sure beats almost falling in the lake when the darn thing breaks again.

I dont know age of outboard you need lower unit for, but a friend of mine recently purchased and installed one of these units on his EFI and is happy with it so far. Has extended breakin procedure but is warranted for 3 years. The Ebay sale is over but you can contact them directly form there add. He got his in about five days. His total cost was $840.00. Their phone number is also listed and they will be able to answer any questions. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-Comp … 294Q3a50QQ

I have a 92 Mercury 200 EFI which had the same symtoms. Turned out to be the cannon plug connector to the fuel control. I found this after much searching. The mechanic thought it was the fuel control which he said was about $1,200.00. I found the plug to be loose, tightened and have no problems with it since. I did discover that the connector locking collar was broken. I secured it with wire ties to ensure it didnt come apart again. It sure ruined a day fishing when I had to idle back to the launch. Hope this gives you something to look for.

My partner and I were to fish a tournement on Lake Martin today but common sense prevaled. It was 23 degrees this morning in Ozark and forecast winds were 20 MPH. I enjoy fishing but I dont think it would have been fun today. Maybe I am gaining some wisdom in my old age.

Wish her best of luck. My wife had her left knee done three weeks ago today in Penix City, AL, and she is doing fine. She has been driving since last Wednesday, in fact she is at therapy now. It seems the important thing is to follow the directions so far as exercise and of course therapy is concerned. Prayers are with her. Sure that she will be fine.

I will just say that I fish three or four times a week out of my 89 PII. My brother bought it new and I bought it in 94. I have upgraded the trolling motor, electronics and had the transom replaced, I hit a stump when I came off plain when Lake Eufaula was low several years ago. The parts are readily available from BCB and they will help in any way they can to get you going again if something breaks. I am retired now and this is probably my last boat. I do not think there is a better more long lasting boat on the market. One of the advantages not listed so far is this board and the almost instant connection with other owners who are more than willing to help any way they can. I do not believe you can go wrong with a well maintained Bass Cat boat!!!!Jim

I do not recommend wearing those while under way. You may depart the boat. Though they are aimed away from the motor noise.

You can also take them to your local Disabled Veterans of American Post. They often provide transportation to and from VA facilities. The same goes for VFW, American Legion and other veterans organizations. I currently have a couple of boxes of magazines in my truck for drop off. The are usually listed in the phone book so you can find out if they will forward them to the VA.

I fabricated a bracket and attached to the lower rt side of the jackplate to mount the side imaging transducer. I was fortunate that I already had a Humminbird transducer installed in the sump. I also installed a switch so I could select the transducer to use. The in hull works better at speed. 89 P II.

The Inter Coastal Waterway runs all the way across Louisiana. It crosses the Calcasieu Ship Channel which runs up to Lake Charles. There is a salt water barrier or lock which allows access fresh water portion of the Calcasieu River. I lived in Lake Charles from “87 – 91. You cold catch Speckled Trout, Red Fish, Flounder and Bass on successive casts. The inter coastal also allows access to Lake Arthur south east of Lake Charles and Galveston Bay south of Houston. If you had the time and gas you could fish Lake Eufala or Seminole from Orange.

I have had several rebuilt at an automotive electric repair shops, depending on what the problem is. Armatures, bushings and other things can be repaired or replaced. Plus they can put it on the bench and determine what the problem is.
