Eknapp. BoBo called me early this a.m. and another guy called shortly thereafter. Sorry, the tires are spoken for. However, there might be another set coming up soon. Ill let you know if that happens. Glad these guys could use them.
My 98 Jag is SOLD> Delivering my Jag to its new owner tomorrow. Thanks for all the email and phone inquiries.
Rick. In addition to his love of the Bass Cat, I forgot to mention how highly he spoke of your family. The event happend to be a Pro Life fundraiser, and he definately wasnt afraid to speak frankly about where he stands on the subject and what guides his beliefs. It was very refreshing to hear his candid remarks. Doubtfull that he and I will cross paths again, but it was an interesting night well spent.
I googled for the specs and Bass Central, Sherms Marine said 100 pounds. Other guys said 55 pounds. I split the difference for tonight and hit about 75# and going to bed. Will change it in the morning if necessary. Thanks for the help.
Thanks all. I think Im on the right track. Replacing fuel line and checking pickup tubes today.
Reporting all is well. Found collapsed internal lining on the fuel line from the bulb to the motor. Runs great now. Replacing bulb, fuel line and filter. Oldtimer57 I agree with you on the ethanol. We recently had a boat that sat in storage for a year or so, with no use. Merc 175 traditional carbs. The bulb and fuel line (black hose) had decayed so much that when we cut the bulb open to look inside it looked like a shredded tire. Thanks everyone for all the help. I was confident I was headed in the right direction, but it is always reassuring to get feed back on this site. Ive got nothing against paying mechanics (my dad was a mechanic and taught me well) but money is really tight right now.
Skipjack… Had same issue you are talking about with Lowrance turning on and off. Worked with Linda Colt and she was terrific. Was very straightforward as to what could or could not be done. She actually went beyond the call of duty to expedite a loaner unit to me prior to a tournament I had scheduled. My experience was very positive! I will tell you, however, that she is a VERY busy lady. It took her some time to respond to my initial email, but when she got to me it was handled promptly and professionally.
Have used Sea Foam in many outboards (Pro XS included) and other 2 cycle motors with no issues. Try to put it in every time I fill er up. I think it really helps. Over last two years Ive torn down or helped others fix motors with ethanol issues (who did not use any additive). ….they were not pretty. And expensive to fix.
Chugger. Trouble picking the ideal color for your Bass Cat? Weve all been there. Depending on your time frame for selection, I would suggest traveling to the Owners Tournament….youll see 500 or 600 color combinations…live and in person. Or, if youre on a fast track and cant wait until May…visit the “weigh in” of some local tournaments in your area where you know there will be some Bass Cats. Take a camera and shoot your favorites.
Think I might have figured this out guys. Appears there was an FM11 kit or similar from Lowrance. The small holes appear to actually have small screws through the dash to the back of the unit. Too late to try tonight. Will attempt in morning.
Thanks for info. Understand the grounding through the lid frame and use of single wire now. Did continuity test on merc switch using the single active long wire and what was left of the other wire that was cut off. Switch is good. Can take the ground wire loose from the nut and touch to the single wire and lights turn on. So must be grounding issue with lid and screw/nut. Is the body of the merc switch attached to the lid used as the ground when the second wire is cut off? If so shouldn’t touching the ground wire from the screw to the body of the merc switch turn the lights on? I get nothing. However I can take the ground wire loose and touch it to the little bit of wire remaining on the cut off merc switch lead, and get lights.
Make any sense to attempt to just solder a wire from the short remaining cut off wire directly to the ground wire?? Thanks for your patience in answering. People ask me why this is my fourth…and probably going to my fifth Bass Cat. I tell them get on the Owners Board and see all the help you get.
Determined four of the six storage light issues were grounds. However, just cleaning and tightening the ground wire to the nut wasn’t enough on a couple of them. The issue was the hinge not grounding to the lid. Didn’t matter how clean you got the nut or how much carpet you cleared for a better ground it still lost ground. But after removing the lock nut, pushing the screw out a bit and sanding under the head of the screw the ground was restored. Message here…it is likely the ground, but it may be the hinge not grounding to the lid. Fish in the rain a lot so feel this contributed to oxidation or similar grounding issue.
Did find two merc switches that work but only if you bang them hard with a wrench. Will replace them. Question: will the merc switch in your parts listing be a comparable replacement? If so will order tomorrow.
Thanks. Think I’ve got this: The Smart Craft will only read two inputs. Got that. One has been dedicated to the oil reservoir and the other to fuel. On the dash panel I could hit “L” or “R” and get readings for the belly (L) or rear (R) tanks. So the dash panel is determining which signal (L or R) is going to the guage. So issue must be with rear tank wiring or dash panel? FYI. Thanks for earlier help with rod box lighting. Mostly ground issues to lids. Hopefully fuel issue will be as easy to diagnose.
