Thanks guys! A quick background on how I got here…I had heard of Bass Cat, but didnt really know much about them…only that I probabaly couldnt afford one (ha!) Last summer I decided that it was time to start thinking about getting into a glass boat. A few trips out in a buddys Stratos made me realize that my time with tin was drawing to a close. So I started researching boats beginning with the usual suspects…Nitro, Ranger, Stratos, Triton, etc. One of my critical considerations was storage length and ease of maneuverability by hand. I have about 20 to work with, without knocking a hole in my garage and a narrow alley that doesnt allow me to back the boat in…I have to drop it in the alley and push it into my garage. I began my search by looking at the storage length of every 18 bass boat out there, and the Sabre stood out as being the most workable storage length in production, owing to its slightly shorter hull length, and the brilliant design of the swing tongue trailer. So I started reading up on it, spent a ton of time with photos online, read every Sabre thread I could on here and BBC (and quite a few about the Margay as well), and generally just started following the brand over the course of the past 9 months or so. In particular I was struck by some of the unique design approaches that Bass Cat uses, the integrity of the company, and the loyal (but not cultish…thats important too) group of owners. I really liked the boats but just as importantly, I liked the culture around the boats. Numerous members over at BBC answered every one of my questions, sent me pics of their rigs to help clarify things that didnt show up in photos, and private messaged me to offer insight and advice. That really meant a lot to me, and it really spoke to the brand. And as a lurker on this site, there was a nice sense of community and none of the pettiness or bravado that can pop up in other forums.Honestly though, I didnt think Id get a Bass Cat. Financially, I was looking at used boats, and finding a Sabre…particularly an FTD…especially within a reasonable distance, was next to impossible. One would pop up every now and again, but either wouldnt work for a variety of reasons (dual axle trailer, 115hp, etc.) or would be too far away. So I figured that Id have to hold off for a Bass Cat for my second boat.Needless to say, Im beyond excited that my first glass boat will be a Bass Cat and I cant believe that I was able to get an FTD Advantage Elite, thats as new as it is, at the price that I did, and only 2.5 hours away. I havent even driven it yet as the dealer didnt have it water ready when I went by…lol!!! But theyve set me up with one of their techs to orient me to the boat on Wednesday, and then Ill tow it home and fish my weekly tournament that evening…lol!!!Ok, off to the store to grap a BC hat and hoodie… 2011 Sabre FTD w/ Mercury 150 Pro XS, Power Pole Sportsman 2s, Humminbird 898 w/ 360 and 858 at bow, 898 at ConsoleFor lots of BCB love, follow me on instagram: @professorbeard

My buddy added two Talons with brackets and tilt mounts and experienced a similar loss of performance and struggle to get on plane on his Stratos. He was actually so frustrated that he considered getting rid of the poles. Someone at a tournament suggested adding one of those hydrofoils to his Yamaha, and while he has still lost a few mph off the top end, performance has otherwise returned to normal.2011 Sabre FTD w/ Mercury 150 Pro XS, Power Pole Sportsman 2s, Humminbird 898 w/ 360 and 858 at bow, 898 at ConsoleFor lots of BCB love, follow me on instagram: @professorbeard

2013 Ford F150 Supercrew with tow package…also using a 5 pin to round adaptor.I do have a truck cap and trailer shop I can take it to if it gets too complicated…2011 Sabre FTD w/ Mercury 150 Pro XS, Power Pole Sportsman 2s, Humminbird 898 w/ 360 and 858 at bow, 898 at ConsoleFor lots of BCB love, follow me on instagram: @professorbeard
Ill give that a try today. One side is definitely burned out as I can see the broken filament. I was able to get the port side working, but I believe I may have a bad connection somewhere as I could get it to work, then Id open the truck door and itd go out, then Id tap the light and itd come back on. Boy, this is going to be fun…Truck fuses are good, Im 98% sure its in the trailer.2011 Sabre FTD w/ Mercury 150 Pro XS, Power Pole Sportsman 2s, Humminbird 898 w/ 360 and 858 at bow, 898 at ConsoleFor lots of BCB love, follow me on instagram: @professorbeard
Well, ended up changing both tail lights and that seems to have solved the issue. I think that one burned out and the other was on its last leg, which is why it would work and then shut off…2011 Sabre FTD w/ Mercury 150 Pro XS, Power Pole Sportsman 2s, Humminbird 898 w/ 360 and 858 at bow, 898 at ConsoleFor lots of BCB love, follow me on instagram: @professorbeard
Id add a few inches for the 4 stroke and 6″ or 8″ for jackplate…I think my Sabre has the 8″.2011 Sabre FTD w/ Mercury 150 Pro XS, Power Pole Sportsman 2s, Humminbird 898 w/ 360 and 858 at bow, 898 at ConsoleFor lots of BCB love, follow me on instagram: @professorbeard

Sounds good! Its still under warranty, so Ill get it in to have them double check it, probably early next week, but will clear the air out and run it for my Wednesday nighter, of course paying careful attention to the alarm (or lack there of!)2011 Sabre FTD w/ Mercury 150 Pro XS, Power Pole Sportsman 2s, Humminbird 898 w/ 360 and 858 at bow, 898 at ConsoleFor lots of BCB love, follow me on instagram: @professorbeard
Thought Id post a follow-up in case someone else has this happen…I ran it a few times last week, and it was fine, but I took it to the shop today just to be safe. Just heard from the shop, theyre going to replace the entire tank, under warranty. Seems that they had some issues with the tank in 2010/11…Last edited by somata on August 26th, 2014, 4:43 pm, edited 1 time in total.2011 Sabre FTD w/ Mercury 150 Pro XS, Power Pole Sportsman 2s, Humminbird 898 w/ 360 and 858 at bow, 898 at ConsoleFor lots of BCB love, follow me on instagram: @professorbeard
Yeah, will probably just grab a new set. They died pretty quickly yesterday, got home and one battery read 12.? And the other read 3.89…so Im guessing that the low one is killing the better one. I was hoping to put it off until spring so that I didnt have new batteries sitting all winter but with a tournament this weekend and another month and a half of fishing, I think Ill just bite the bullet…2011 Sabre FTD w/ Mercury 150 Pro XS, Power Pole Sportsman 2s, Humminbird 898 w/ 360 and 858 at bow, 898 at ConsoleFor lots of BCB love, follow me on instagram: @professorbeard

Im pretty sure that unless you have something like the lower unit coverage that Progressive offers, youd have to have hit something for it to be covered…2011 Sabre FTD w/ Mercury 150 Pro XS, Power Pole Sportsman 2s, Humminbird 898 w/ 360 and 858 at bow, 898 at ConsoleFor lots of BCB love, follow me on instagram: @professorbeard
