Thanks for the input. The assistance provided by the folks that frequent this is amazing.
Thanks BCB. Nope it was not a dock or object but instead rough water. Mine was an early 2006 thus it has the rivots that are about every 4-6 inches. Do you suggest that I replace the rivots with machine screws? If so, what size or should I contact Service? Thanks. It is impressive to get help from BCB on a Sunday afternoon…
Just replaced about 20 rivets on my Puma this past weekend. Indeed, the 3/16″ bit is the magic size. I was able to drill through the head and the head worked its way right up the bit. From there, all you have to do is punch the rivet through the hull. Thanks BCB and Jamey for the guidance.
MOCATT hit it on the head. The 3.0 is 10 tall and bullet proff. I ran a 2004 200efi 3.0 until late this summer, almost always at WOT, and never had a problem. That 200, on a 19 1/2 ft boat, was pushing me past almost all boats running 225s, and that was while fighting the limiter due to an undersized 27Tempest. I do miss that motor, but the good thing is that the recipient of that motor was able to finally part with his fuel efficient blue piece of junk which was fuel efficient because it was always in the shop.
It should take half that time, at the most, to replace the rubrail. With the help of BCB and the folks on this board, I was able to replace the rivets on both sides of my 06 Puma this past summer (from the front of each console to the back of each seat). I did not time myself, but I can tell you it did not take more than 30 minutes to replace a distance that was comparable to about half the length of one side of the boat. And it was not like I was attempting top see how fast I could do it. It is a simple procedure. As Sheff indicated, all you have to do drill off the head of the rivet. With some of the rivets you will have to “punch out ” the remaining portion. The pneumatic tool is the key. Save the money and do it yourself. Good luck!
Congratulations – You guys make it enjoyable to own a BCB!
I just ran into an interesting situation when I went to have my tires replaced on my 20s. The shop (national chain) told me they are no longer authorized to install passenger tires on wheels that are being mounted on trailers. The guys acknowledged that the chance of failure is very low but they insisted that they could not install them. However, what they proceeded to advise me to to bring the wheels in and they could mount the tires. Well, I spent this past weekend running back and forth from my house to the shop with the wheels. Just a heads up, others may run into this problem, especially with the 20s. Regardless, I do not care how many trips it would have taken. I will not give up the 20s.
So here is some additional information. Brand new battery, no problems with any of the other electronics (voltage (smartcraft and reading on graph on console) is fine). With everything shut-off, there is still a loss of power through the wiring to the front of the boat.
Thanks folks…
As always, the folks on this board are the most helpful and courteous that I have seen on any board. So, I had to take a business associate out yesterday fishing without getting a chance to attempt to fix the problem that is affecting my front graph (334C iGPS). So, as usual the graph booted-up immediately and within 1 to 2 minutes it shut down. Unfortunately, there really is not enough time to go to the screen to check the voltage before it powers down. The cranking battery (brand new and this problem has been checked with another another brand new battery) is not the problem. Now, an interesting thing happened later in the day. I decided to try powering-up the unit again and guess what…it stayed on. Now the question is how long could it have stayed on? I say this because it was about 15 minutes before I had to head to the ramp. The bottomline is that it stayed on for more than 1-2 minutes.
Thanks Topwater. What you have suggested is my project for tonight. Instead of fishing I get to troubleshoot electronics.
jmt56tx, I got mine from Jaco. They had just received the shipment. In fact they were still in the shipping box when I called yesterday. I paid $468 and shipping was free.
BCB, Thanks for the report. Mine should be arriving next week. Looking forward to getting it dialed in. Once that happens I will post numbers. I have been running a 27 Trophy and a worked 28 purchased from PA. Cannot wait to see what this bad boy will do.
Jmt56tx, I will be running it on a 06 Puma/250XS. I run a super light load (I am talking 2-3 Plano boxes and only the rods I will need), rarely more than 20 gallons of gas (saddles), and I weigh 165. In addition, I live in Oregon where we do not have to deal with the heat and humidity. Also, I am running at just above sea-level. The 27 should provide some interesting results…at least that is what I am hoping for. Neil
scubaman154, Been there…as a matter of fact it was just a week ago. Every time I applied the brakes the pressure would continue to increase until the brakes would eventually lock. For me, it was the master cylinder that was creating the problem. Unfortunately, enough damage was done that I also had the joy of having to replace the brakes. It worked well because in the process I had the solenoid, which had seen better days, replaced. A whole new brakes system. Not cheap, but I am set for several more years…hopefully.
