Ive been whacking on a few of those at Lay Lake…Too bad I cant catch more than 13 lbs. on a Saturday!”
I know…I better not catch that guy fishin in my spot again…
Same exact thing happened to mine. Contacted my dealer and had to get a new touchpad and box. This one runs my bilge pump continuously on auto setting as well as manual. Its either off or on, no auto. Havent had a chance to make it back to my dealer yet.
Im running the 24p fury at 3″ below pad. I weigh 230 and with 3/4-full tank im seiing between 68.5-69.5 at 5700. I have seen 70-71 at 5800 low on fuel. The boat is extremely weight sensitive. Add a 230 lb partner and im at 64ish at 5550, fill the livewells with a partner and im struggling to hit 60 around 5400. It cant get its rpms up with the fury under a heavy load. Perfect prop if you like to fish by yourself most of the time. Search 2014 basscat margay on youtube, I put a little clip on there a while back that i took with my phone, I think i was running 69 or so heavy on fuel. Engine height makes a big difference on the Margay. Keep playing around with it and youll find the sweet spot. I have run 20 footers for years and this boat is unique. There is only one thing that will fix the chine walk and that is time behind the wheel. It doesnt matter how much experience you have running boats, this ones got an attitude different from any other ive seen. It will plow water. Trim up a little at a time and add power until it gets on its pad. After enough seat time you wont even haveto think about it.
It really would help to have width of each boat on its standard trailer listed for each model. No manufacturer seems to advertise width on trailer in their specs. Some of us dont have a warehouse, barn or hangar to keep our boats in and every inch counts when measuring to see if something will fit or not.
The reason I leaned towards the motor-mate is because of the Margay trailer. The motor toter would flex the trailer in at least 2 inches where the roller is when I would put it on. And no I wasnt trimming down on it hard at all. My trailer is actually bent permanently where the roller is welded on from hitting bumps with the motor toter. Its just way too small of a piece of metal running across the back of the Margay trailer to handle that kind of pressure. That piece of metal that runs across the back of the trailer is tiny. Im pretty sure its 2 inch channel…It is laughable really. It just seems to me that with that much flex on the back of the trailer the motor toter bar was jack hammering into the lower unit when I hit a bump in the road. The motor mate is solid I really like it.Last edited by Aaron Owens on October 8th, 2014, 9:41 pm, edited 1 time in total.
I have never been in a Sabre but im sure they ride great. As for the Margay, it is awesome in a chop, especially running with the chop or against it. I have had quite a few people with me on some less than desirable days and everybody is blown away by how solid that boat is for a 17 footer. It rides as good if not better than many 19 footers I have owned and ridden in. Dont get me wrong it aint a 20 footer but its impressive for what it is. Just passed by a guy in a triton a couple days ago that was getting his spine realigned in the wind, sailed right by him. Man he was getting beat up good. You dont get very nice looks from guys in bigger boats when you do that either lol. There is although one situation that the Margay does not like, and that is getting into a side to side situation, like getting in a good size boat wake or running cross ways through the chop. When that thing gets rocking back and forth it doesnt like to quit. On pad, its hard to get it to stop that motion once it gets going, and it can get pretty uncomfortable for the passenger if you are in a hurry. I have the 150xs on mine and the numbers I regularly get are 67-69 by myself, 64-66 with a partner, and about 62ish with a partner, livewells full and full of gas. It will run 70 if you leave all your tackle at home and only put about $10 in gas in it If you can get passed the look of the extended rod box (which is awesome) and the fact that it has the word gay in the name(not so awesome), its a sweet boat. I definetely recommend it to anybody looking for a boat in its class.
drill.
Yep. A bit that is just barely bigger than the hole in that busted rivet is usually all it takes to break the rivet apart and it will fall out of the hole.
I guess it can be as big a deal as anyone wants to make it. Drill em out without wollering out the fiberglass, drop the new ones in, push down hard on the rivet gun and pop em in place. No big deal at all just take your time drilling the old ones out.
Very nice looking. I am thinking about the same color scheme when I upgrade from my Margay to my Puma FTD here in about umpteen years
Hang in there! Its fixing to be party time all over the southeast within the next couple weeks…Just in time for most of you to head off and go climb a tree!
Fixed mine. good point.
weird. thats the complete opposite of what it should do.
Yeah all mine in the past have too. I always just lived with it but I guess its this new style ventless tank, if you think you have 5 or 6 gallons to go and it catches you offguard pumping fast, it will shoot a 2 foot spray fountain all over the place with zero warning…I cant even hear it getting close like I could on all my other boats. Cant see the gas through the tank either.Last edited by Aaron Owens on November 19th, 2014, 11:33 pm, edited 1 time in total.
