Jeremy, If you have any question about the boat drop me a line I owned the boat from 2000 to 2007. I hope you have a great time with it. Mike Coffee
There is a 1997 Jaguar on http://www.fishinworld.com . Look in the classified section. I do not know anything about the boat I just ran across it earlier today. Mike
I do not know about the XR6 but I had a Mariner Mag II which is the equivalent to a Mercury XR4 and the other difference it had was it used the small lower unit. You could only run small diameter hub props on that motor. At the time the other motors ran a 1.87:1 gear ratio large hub lower unit and the XR4 ran a 1.78:1 small hub lower unit. If the XR6 still used the small hub lower unit it might limit the prop options such as borrowing a prop from a buddy to test it. My Mag II was a great engine. Mike Coffee
JagInCT, Send them to me and Ill post them for you. My email is ] . Thanks, Mike Coffee Nacogdoches, TX
Here is Chads Jaguar.
Here is the link to the boat. http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/boa/1224001029.html If you use a search engine called http://www.searchtempest.com it will search all craigs list based on zipcode and how far away you want to look. It works pretty well.Mike Coffee
What do you want for the boat and trailer? Did you sell the hydraulic plate with the motor? Thanks, Mike Coffee Nacogdoches, Texas
Rough Stuff Rider, I had a 1997 Jaguar with a 1997 Mariner 225 EFI. I ran a Trophy 26 and a Tempest 25. On Sam Rayburn in 100 degree weather it would run 72.0 to 72.4 mph with two guys 40+ gallons of gas and a tournament load with a flipping deck in it. I carried a second trolling motor in the right side front storage. I saw the boat hit 75.2 mph in February with only me in the boat but that was a very rare occurrence. I was running an EFI not an Optimax so I do not know how an Optimax runs in comparison but I would think you should be able to get at least to the 70 mph mark. I would say this I am fanatical about having a prop tuned by someone who knows what they are doing. If the rake and cup on all the blades do not match you will never get all that you can from the boat. Hope the info helps. Mike Coffee Nacogdoches, Texas
Ive got one axle left from a 1990 Pantera 2 trailer that I replaced. I live in Nacogdoches but the axle is in Lufkin at a friends house. Ill be down there Thursday morning and will look at it and make sure the spindles look fine. The axle was the one with brakes on it but you could pull the brake assembly off if you did not want it. Boat looks great. Its amazing how new carpet can really change the looks of the boat. Im starting to work on a 94 Pantera 2 myself. Keep up the good work and keep posting pictures.Mcvoan,If you change out your dash and want to get rid of the old one let me know. Thanks,Mike Coffee(936) 554.6515
BCBThanks for the information. I turned out to be a bad voltage regulator. Im ordering two new ones and will work arount the bilge pump issue. Thanks for all your input on the board. Its your willingness to go the extra mile and the information that you provide that has kept me in a Basscat since 1993. Keep up the good work. Thanks,Mike Coffee
Ive always had a good prop shop work on my prop when trying to get everything out of my boat. The one real difference I see is drivability. My fishing partner has Ivans 99 P3 and it is screaming fast for a 19 – 200hp Opti but with his stock prop it is a handful to drive. He can put my prop on that is balanced and get about a mile more per hour and has a much easier time driving the boat. Both props are 25 pitch Tempests. Id get it worked over if I were you. You can have a prop shop true the prop where they check the rake and cup of each blade but not thin the blade out and you really do not run any additional risk of throwing a blade. Just my two cents.Mike
I have had a couple of issues with my Tour Edition in the 9 years that I have had it and Motorguide has always stood behind it. I had Joe Smith from Motorguide replace a foot once at the owners invitational back in 2002, and when I had issues with a couple of years later I got Motorguide to replace the analog system with the digital board at their cost. The one thing I learned was that the repair centers had a much differnet attitude in dealing with me when I had a reference number from Motorguide. I would recomend that you call Motorguide and tell them what the issues are and see if you can get some resolution. I used Gulf Coast Trolling Motor in Houston, Texas.I would certianly take up BassCats offer and contact them and see where that takes you as well. I hope it works out for you.Mike Coffee
I had this very discussion with a friend that is a Mercury Service Dealer in East Texas and he tells me there is a Mercury kit to block off the low water pickups on the nose of the lower unit to keep from picking up wood and grass and getting it stuck in the thermostats. You might check on it. I had around 450 hours on my 97 225 EFI Mariner when I sold it and it was as strong as the day I got it. If you treat it right it will last a long, long time.Mike
