I recently aquired a 94 PII. it was equipped with 205/70 series tires with the factory rims and still managed to rub a hole in the fenderwell. With the overall lack of clearance I have decided to stretch the axles by an additional 2 1/2″ to eliminate the problem all together. This will allow me to run 225/70 tires if I wish. I know my tires will extend past the fenderwell slightly, but I will live with it knowing I wont ruin a tire.

A 215/75 series Goodyear Marathon is 8 1/2 inches wide at the sidewall. A 225/70 Firestone Indy 500 is 9 inches at the sidewall. A 75 series tire would give you a little more clearance. Without extending the axles, another option would be changing to rims with a greater offset to bring the tires out. However, the cost of new rims($500-$600) or modifying the axles ($100) is to be considered. I also looked at installing wheel spacers, but gaining only 7/16 to 1/2″ and also having to replace all the lug bolts, it still wasnt enough clearance for peace of mind. Im looking at gaining 1 1/4″ on each side by changing the axle length. More than enough clearance even with 225/70 tires. Besides, it gives it a wider, meaner stance.

the series profile is the problem. the lower the number the wider the tire. stick with the 75 series to keep the tire thinner across the sidewall. although the tire will be taller and narrower it should give you the clearance you need. Remember that the fenderwells slope toward the tire. you may have marginal clearance sitting still, but a road bounce will cause the frame/fender to drop down possibly contacting the sidewall. just have to mount them and see what kind of clearance youve got. any tire shop can mount one up and place it on each hub to check it. as for me, since i have acesss to everything, im extending the axles.

check the lake level. if the water is up to the top of the grass, swim a jig. if the grass is very exposed (8-10″) then move out with a tube or beaver. on jig selection, go with white 5/16 oz. as you clear the grass, pause and let it fall to the bottom. Be ready as they hit it hard and fast. Brushpiles are best fished with texas rigged worm. colors are a tossup, but red shad and junebug are a good start. My PSA spiked to 20+ this last time. Biopsey showed cancer evident and set for surgery on the 11th. This was my 3rd biopsey in the past 4 years with the previous 2 being negative. Going with the DaVinci proceedure as ive heard a lot of positive feedback on it. Looks like im missing out on the Federation tournament again for the 2nd straight year. Guys, dont ignore the symptoms!!

Guess I hadnt thought of that configuration. Sounds good and not drilling holes in the lip is appealing. Thanks

If you decide to disaassemble it. be sure to check the relief hole in the master cylinder. it is very small and will clog with “mud”. this hole removes residual pressure to you brakes. if it is clogged, your brakes will stay engaged and get very very hot.

That type of coupling is manufactured by Attwood. you can go to their website and download a PDF manual. Not a complicated system. You will be better off replacing the wheel cylinders rather that trying to rebuild. They will get filled with mud and water and the bores will be scored. The shoes from a 1970-71 mustang will fit perfectly (2 1/4 x 10). Also, check your spring componants. You will find the spring bushings, bolts and shackles are worn out. I have gained a lot of knowlege on this issue from a total trailer rebuild on my 94.

Thanks for the input. Guess Ill make a trip to BassPro so I can lay hands on one. Guess Im a little gun shy of making a bad decision since buying that Beta-Max in 1982.
