actually I am talking about the graph, the Edge3. A pretty big unit.Bill Spence St. Albans, VT billspence@yahoo.com http://www.twinstatebassin.com Bass Cat Boats http://www.basscat.com Vexilar Marine Electronics http://www.vexilar.com
is adjustable both bu raising the motor and locking it at a higher height and by cutting the shaft down to the height you need. Cutting the shaft, though possible, isnt as easy as it may seem. They have 42, 52, and 62 inch shafts available so finding the right one isnt that hard. Put me down strongly in favor of Minn Kota in this debate. For every reason imaginable.Bill Spence St. Albans, VT billspence@yahoo.com http://www.twinstatebassin.com Bass Cat Boats http://www.basscat.com Vexilar Marine Electronics http://www.vexilar.com
I have (not for much longer) the exact same motor. I too watch the smartcraft and as long as it is warming to near 140 before cooling, all is well. If it is staying at 114 all the time, it seems you may have thermostat(s) open and that is a problem. If the water temp gets to near 140 then cools to there, it sounds right. Sherm and other real Merc guys can back me up or tell me I am a fool.Bill Spence St. Albans, VT billspence@yahoo.com http://www.twinstatebassin.com Bass Cat Boats http://www.basscat.com Vexilar Marine Electronics http://www.vexilar.com
Just so I am understood, it will run at 114 or so after the thermostats open and the water flows. It will only heat up when you are at idle. It wont heat up when there is good water flow (higher than idle RPM). Optis take very little water when idling and will get to the temp pretty quickly. I have smartcraft and never hammer down till I see the water temp going back down from (somewhere near) 140. There is a neat post here from someone who knows a lot more than I do. http://bbcboards.zeroforum.com/zerothread?id=25496Bill Spence St. Albans, VT billspence@yahoo.com http://www.twinstatebassin.com Bass Cat Boats http://www.basscat.com Vexilar Marine Electronics http://www.vexilar.com
Any time the wind would blow you and you would have to be on the trolling motor to hold position in shallow water. I have seen it used masterfully to hold the boat while picking apart a weedbed while the wind blew like crazy. No need to be on the trolling motor to hold the boat. That being said, it is big and expensive and may not be worth it.Bill Spence St. Albans, VT billspence@yahoo.com http://www.twinstatebassin.com Bass Cat Boats http://www.basscat.com Vexilar Marine Electronics http://www.vexilar.com
BABABOOEY, BABABOOEY, BABABOOEY It will not interfere with anything. It will, however use lots of battery, or so I have been told.Bill Spence St. Albans, VT billspence@yahoo.com http://www.twinstatebassin.com Bass Cat Boats http://www.basscat.com Vexilar Marine Electronics http://www.vexilar.com
Super. With the 10 I will have on the deck and the five in the co-angler spot, there should be just enough room. Anything you may save on sticker price with the EFI will be cut into by burning 93 octane in the EFI and the overall worse gas/oil mileage. Opti oil isnt all that much more than premium plus right now and the fact that you are burning 93 octane gas makes it basically a wash. If you are going to burn cheap oil, it doesnt matter which motor you have. Optis call for 87 octane. EFIs call for 93 (I believe). Add in the lower resale and I feel that an EFI will cost more over the long haul. Some would say that the EFI is more reliable but I am in the camp that says they CAN all have problems so I dont consider that all that much. Get the Opti. That 225 sips oil and gas and the reliability is there as much as any other brand and model.Bill Spence St. Albans, VT billspence@yahoo.com http://www.twinstatebassin.com Bass Cat Boats http://www.basscat.com Vexilar Marine Electronics http://www.vexilar.com

if idling for long periods is a normal thing for you, you will need to get good at watching the water temp. As it gets to 140, both thermostats are supposed to open. What happens is some trash (weeds, stick, etc.) gets stuck in one of the two thermostats and it stays open. As I am sure you are aware, Optis idle with basically no water pressure. What little water that is going through the motor is going through the side with the open thermostat, the other one never opens and you get an overheat. After you take it to the shop and get it checked, watch the water temp when idling for a long period. As it gets over 140 and doesnt cool, pop it out of gear and rev it a little to get better water flow. It works like a charm. In theory, it will never get over 140 if operating correctly but getting something in the thermostats is way too routine to be running to the shop every time it happens.Bill Spence St. Albans, VT billspence@yahoo.com http://www.twinstatebassin.com Bass Cat Boats http://www.basscat.com Vexilar Marine Electronics http://www.vexilar.com
Mine is bungee corded in a milk crate, wrapped in a towel. I have it in the first compartment (the one without the day box) and the crate is bungee corded to the middle seat post. Nicely out of the way and very secure. The fact that it is in a square container makes storage of other stuff in there easy.Bill Spence St. Albans, VT billspence@yahoo.com http://www.twinstatebassin.com Bass Cat Boats http://www.basscat.com Vexilar Marine Electronics http://www.vexilar.com
