I got a call from some folks that live up there. It appears that Mt. View was hit hard, but Mt. Home was luckier. The hospital in Mt. View was hit hard. I also hear that Lakesport Boats in Clinton is in trouble – someone maybe trapped in the building (unconfirmed). Send them your prayers. One of the locals, Tommy Cauley, works for them and some of you may know Toad.
Richie, I sent you an email from my regular account. John
I just ordered a Sabre FTD myself with the 997 in the console, so it will work fine. My understand, but cant swear on it, that the bigger boats can take the 1100 series in the console. You really go through a dealer to order it, but the last I checked on mine, the current lead time from order to delivery was about 5 to 6 weeks for the Sabre and slightly longer on the larger boats as BCB makes more of the big boys.Good Luck,John
I will echo what Sproguy said. I just got mine and have taken it out to Lake Maumelle three times now. I will confess that I read the entire book (yes all 150+ pages) while I waited on my new boat. The SI works like a charm and it isnt that hard to use. I found that all you have to do is turn it on and cruise around. The key to me is the ability to move the cursor over onto the feature you want to keep track of and mark it on your GPS. The other thing to remember is that the black line in the middle is the depth, so if you watch the thickness of the line, you can watch for depth changes right under the boat and then watch for changes out from the boat. I have been really impressed with the ability of the unit to define humps in deep water and even pick up the marker buoy and anchor line. The other benefit that I didnt expect is the units ability to pick up weedbeds and the contours in shallow water.Well, that is my two cents worth. I am planning to take it out to Dardanelle this weekend to take a look at some of the drops that have been productive in the past. John
Doug, I really appreciate it. Coach is having to do it all on his own, so help is always welcome. I know he would like to have you and Jeffrey fish if you can. If any of the other guys are interested in fishing that is great too. One other thing, there will be give aways for kids under 14, it probably wont be much, but they will get something to make it more fun for them. John
The 175 Pro XS weighs in at 431 lbs which is the same all the way down to the 135. I would guess that you can fool around with the weight distribution in your load to help compensate. Just think of it as hanging your 10 year old behind you on skis. Might be slow out of the hole, but you could move up to a High 5 if that was an issue and top end wasnt your biggest concern. I bet Rich would tell you that Verados fuel consumption and run all day ability would outweigh the top end with the walleye guys.
A 115 that weighs 20% more than the Opti/EFI version is going to be slooooooow. sabreski is right.
Save the saw – if you just need a couple inches, cut a shim from a 2×4 and slide it under the TM instead of locking it down. I just use the plastic handle most of the time and, depending how far back you slide it, you can get a couple inches extra easy.
Thanks guys, I will check in with the fellows at Fish n Stuff. Ken and Larry over at H20 have been helpful as well. I will take a look at WB as Alan suggests.John
Ward – Carolyn is letting me out for good behavior. Actually, she is great considering she is about 26 weeks now. She told me that she wants the same deal you have w/ yours. I think I will stick with D and Alans suggestions and stick it out on the main river. We will launch out of Alltel I am certain. I think I will stick with a jig and a Bandit on the rock. I just have this little spot up Little Maumelle River that holds a few toads, so it is hard to avoid at least looking. Thanks for the input guys.John
Does anyone know of a good team circuit that hasnt already been mentioned? Doesnt have to be a big group, just something for fun. Also, other than Vinces SuperTeam and Sherwood, are there any other Quest team circuits in Arkansas? John
We are close in size, 65″ and around 220 lbs, but I went with the 2XL so I could also wear one of the turtlenecks under it. John
If you can do E&P work in the oil patch, take a look at PennEnergy.com. They have a pretty good listing and several of the midcontinent producers are having trouble filling spots. Tough work and long days, but the money is good while it lasts. Plus, I looked at the site and City of Longview is looking for a City Engineer just posted today – click the link or search for the city on the “modify search” bar. Also, Chesapeake is hiring around Shreveport (I think). http://careers.pennenergy…&networkView=national I can tell you that the E&P segment is really active, but will warn you that it isnt always. If you decide you are willing to look farther away, the more options you will have. Good Luck, John
Never used it but, Ardent makes a flipping specific reel that only holds like 75 or 80 yards of 20# test in a 6.3:1 gear ratio. Also, the Abu Garcia Wench is supposed to be the real deal and I think it is a 5.4:1 ratio but it holds a “normal” amount of line. I have a couple of the other Revo series that I really like. They dont weigh anything and fit my hand well.John
Phil, Water supply issues are extraordinarily hot topics throughout the South, especially around the larger metropolitan areas like Atlanta. Depending on the particular issue and the watershed, there are a variety of agencies and advocacy groups that may help you out. Chris Horton who worked for Arkansas Game & Fish is now the Conservation Director or maybe Assistant Director for BASS. He has an excellent reputation for getting things done and could probably point you in the right direction. So that is kind of the party line on who to contact. Along another front, depending on how the usage is impacting a local community, you might work through the mayor/city council with the agency that manages the watershed. In that case, you might end up working with the Corps of Engineers, Tennessee Valley Authority, or even a watershed management agency specific to Alabama. Any time one of this type of agency wants to make a change to a water use, then they will have to meet specific environmental (National Environmental Policy Act or state equivalent) requirements. Those requirements can be used as a tool to force certain compliance with previously approved management procedures. You might also be able to make the argument that failure to maintain certain water levels and/or flows adversely impacts an endangered or threatened species. In that case, the action is probably barred by the Endangered Species Act and you can contact the U.S. Fish & Wildlife to determine if the the action would result in a “taking”. Then you can sic USF&W on them and get the use restricted. I have never looked into it, but Alabama probably has a state-specific water use scheme. In Arkansas we have surface and groundwater regulations that are administered by the Arkansas Natural Resouces Commission (formerly Ark. Soil & Water). Several western states have imposed various water use limitations that include the ability of the local water authority to write tickets and issue citations for improper or over use. Finally, there are probably conservation/green groups that have agendas you may or may not agree with in cities like Mobile. These groups tend to be very good at doing a lot without much funding. While I can usually stomach someone like Nature Conservancy, even the more moderate groups are being hijacked by more radical members all the time (IMHO). So I have to ask – are we talking about a water pik? John
