Gary, I was running a stock 27 Trophy. I had 25 gallons of fuel, 15 r/r, a front box full of winter gear and the box in front of the console all my tackle. I backed the run up running the other way. I was running 5940 rpms. The motor only had 2 hours on it. Like Rick says I think the 27 may be to tall for the heat of the summer for my application.. Maybe a 26-1/2 would be ideal. I really like the Cougar, it runs like the Jaguar used to. I am going to be in your area next weekend. I am fishing a buddy tournamnet with my dealer on your lake. Ive had this happen on several 2wd Chevy Crew cabs. I just pop the truck into neutral as soon as I hit the incline and no more sliding. Jeff

Mjacobs, I know the past owner of your new boat very well. He is a little guy and always ran the rig with a very light load. He ran the plate higher than most. The boat would run good for him set up like this. His team partner was also a little guy. He caught a lot of fish with very few rods a very little tackle. He took very good care of the boat. It should make you a good boat for a long time. You have been offered some good suggestions on set up. I would first look at plate height.
