Recommend obtaining a simple hand scale and do some testing…I broke off some fish this spring that I couldnt explain, no brush, open water, fairly light action rod, drag ok. So I did some testing, fluro to me is highly suspect. You might be surprised at the break point of some of your lines. Set up a system that gives you a good anchor point on both ends with a good knot. I trashed a bunch of lines that were “Highly recommended”. Remember this is not very scientific, but you have to have confidence in your equipment. With fluro a couple things were quickly evident, knots must be perfect, any kinks or direct connect to braid in some knots seems to “cut” the fluro. I now use the J knot (surgeons triple knot?) with braid to leader. P line is my choice for a leader. Will use up my Cabelas and Stren Fluro, the rest went in the trash. Mono, I use Trilene XL (my preference for limp, castability and test strength). I actually prefer McCoys, but kinda hard for me to get and I seem to have to re-spool more often that XL, again my choice. Silver Thread and Basspro XPS seem to be pretty good mono, jury still out. Guess the point is, dont take anyones word, do your own testing, when you set hard, you better have confidence that the line holds at the stated 12 pound test not actually breaking at 6. In the last few months , I have lost a lot of faith in line I have use for years. Back in the search mode and open to suggestions.
Thanks will pass it on..I have a Verado on my Puma and he has the Yammie on his current Champion.
thanks for all of the input…will certainly do some checking.
Try three rivers, have had excellent dealings with them..http://www.threeriversmarine.com/
Shouldnt be a problem, mine worked fine…just be careful of the setback, I went with a 6 but wish I had used the 9…I think the number is J9SLR (starboard) or J9PLR (port)…
Thanks for the inputs, working on the options now……
Was hoping to see some basic 5 panel, higher crown type hats, nothing fancy just basic colors with the BassCat logo.Maybe next time.
have the fortex, really like the lift assist and it does set high, but I am ok with that as clearance for rod handles/reels is better. My cover still fits, but barely. The only drawback (imo) is the “speed” control, I seem to fight adjusting it both up and down.
Cause I sign the checks?
Went through the same thing, looked at a number of options..ended up with the Maxxis in D rating..205 75r15..so far so good…
After I lost mine, I used an old heavy duty mud flap to attach mine, still working.
Running Maxxis on my Puma (and ATV trailer), doing well so far.
Might want to off set the weight of one side, i.e., three batteries on one side, look to mount the Talon on the other.
