Wow, ok thanks for the info everybody. I knew if I came to this board I would get some good info. Mike Whitten- e-mail sent. Now to sit back and digest this and while I have your attention does anyone care to weigh in on their favorite fluoracarbon line? Trying to find one that will behave on my baitcasters.

My SC1000 was less than $300.00 installed. I too think it is an excellent choice.

Congrats on that new boat. I called my 17 yr old and his girlfriend “boatless bank trash” awhile back and they failed to see the humor. Drive carefully.p.s. Thanks for that package last week.

Congrats and welcome to the family! Just regular on that gas, no high octane.

I tow my 06 Sabre with a 99 Toyota Tacoma. It has a 5000lb tow capacity which is what the Ridgeline says it is. I have no issues but I will eventually move to a bigger vehicle. Mine is a straight stick which I have learned to hate over the last 8 yrs. As was stated above, just pay attention to stopping distances and you should be fine. Mine is also 4 WD, which is a must with a vehicle that size at the ramp. I must say if I was buying right now I would not consider a vehicle that size though. Your needs may dictate otherwise. Good Luck! Joe

Thanks for the replies fellas. I believe it has always idled in the 150 range and yes I do fish a couple of lakes that often require longer idling speeds due to considerable numbers of stumps (10 mph limits) or often at night I will slow it way down just for safety when moving spots. Only has 40 hrs on it so no the impeller has not been changed. With no hot foot I cant take it out of gear and rev the engine so would that just require popping it like I would to bring up on plane? Sounds like a definite trip to the shop. Once again thanks for the info. One more question. The cap on the engine mounted oil reservoir, does it have an o-ring under the cap. While I was checking it out I took that cap off to get a good look in to make sure it was filling properly. With it being dark I could not see the oil level without getting a light in there. When I took the cap off I lost a small o-ring in the water of course. Had trouble with a check valve on that reservoir before so it was a suspect. I did not remember seeing one there before. That cap doesnt seem to want to seat well, almost like those threads are stripped a little, but my mechanic had it working fine and and filling properly after replacing a check valve last fall. Im well aware of the problems that can cause, just didnt remember an o-ring under that cap. Sorry for the long post and my limited knowledge. Learning here on the fly.Last edited by loujoe on July 6th, 2008, 12:20 am, edited 1 time in total.

If I were putting specs to a new one I would definately get the pop-axle kit for resale purposes, if no other. Having said that I have the pop-axle option on my 06 Sabre but much prefer to use my “go-jacks” to move the boat by hand in the garage. They are slick.

As Judd said, you really only need 2 of the Go Jacks. As I get a little older the day may come that I need 4. Just not this day.

BasscatRJ, I read somewhere just recently that your situation is indeed common and the restart would produce “false” overheat alarms. The recommenedation was to NOT start your motor and then fiddle with your boat before take off. When you shut it off the water settles and the engine heats up so on re-start there you go, overheated. I only know what I read but it sounds like yours is behaving normally if put in the right situation.DPT2005 – Can you describe where I find the poppet valve? I guess another trip to the local Merc dealer is in order. I need to order the manual on this opti so I can become more familiar with this engine. My BassCat dealer is 3.5 hours away and that is not cheap with todays gas prices. Thanks BC and everyone else for being so helpful.

Thanks BCB. Ill be gentle. E-mailed Sherm today and we will get it straighened out. In the meantime since the “other” dealer is closer I will handle it with them as you have advised. Cant say enough how great it is to have you guys to turn to.

Dont know where you are but I just checked Raleigh and Kinston prices and you guys have it pretty good. Here is Southern Indiana we have been at 3.85 for a couple of days now. We are always hosed!

Here in the Louisville/Southern Indiana market we now have 3.99 and radio stations are touting 5.00 but have seen no evidence of that. Fear mongers… I refused to get in a stupid line to save .15 a gallon (2.25 on the fill-up) Shoot Ill throw that much away and more breaking off one crank bait the next time out
