Ive been a mechanic / technician for 40 years now , and my recommendation is to wait a few years when something new comes out . It may be the neatest thing since sliced bread , but it still needs time to be field tested IMHO .
Not sure of your whole plan , but I saw no mention of cross ribs . As a fellow “big guy” , I recommend a couple of reinforcement ribs running the length of the insert . ( left to right of boat ) Just glass a couple of strips of 1×2 to the bottom of the plywood . — I also recommend gel coating ( or marine painting ) the whole thing before you carpet it to ensure waterproofing . — Just my 2 cents worth .
I run a 99 Classic with the Maxxum 101 , 45″ inch shaft . — Works great !! — Always had Motorguides before this , and didnt know if Id like the M/K , but it would be hard to go back now .
I fished out of an 88 P/2 for 18 years . — I put that boat into places that boats shouldnt go and it just kept on asking for more . — Shes still going strong , and I kinda miss her sometimes . — Lots of GRAND memories , and youre just getting started . — I envy you a bit . — Enjoy your new to you boat . — It will make many memories for you , of which Im sure many will be GRAND !!
More data would be helpful , but if its an older 2 stroke the powerhead must come off to change them . — Hydro-tec has some solid mounts that eliminate the factory stuff , but they do transmit a bit of vibration into the hull . — Worth the effort though , as they give it a much more agile feel to drive . — As far as labor , a couple or three hours should be adequate to do the job , again assuming its a 2 stroke model . — Hope this helps —
Already have the glasses , so that Idea is out . — As for the bulldozer idea , I dont guess I need one if I already have a Bass Cat . As for staying out of places that look like trouble , I may have to think twice about where I try to get into , but if it looks as good as that particular spot did I just have to try . ( Bassaholic you know .)
S.W. , Im glad to see that there are still some of us out there that have a sense of adventure . — Sorry for your downtime , but after all , thats why we buy insurance . It covers stupidity , which in my case would have been a fitting call , but the spot looked THAT good .–Just had to try .
I went from a Pan 2 to a classic , and it loses speed if you overtrim . The Pan 2 would take all the trim you could give it , but the Classic is a bit lighter I beleive , and gets a bit squirelly because of it . — Watch your speed as you trim up and find that ” Happy spot ” where it just wants to walk a little bit but maintains speed , put the juice to it and enjoy the rush . Lots of fun to drive once you get dialed into it . Ive seen 77.4 on the GPS , and I think theres a bit more there if I tweak a little , but I dont think Im ready just yet .
Big 2 strokes and fuel mileage are two terms its real hard to use in the same sentence . Backing off to about 80% throttle helps as much as anything else does .
Many variables involved here . — Boat load is a big consideration , and if I get in there with you , youll have a boatload for sure . — What I found with mine was to load it the way youre going to run it , and tweak from there . — 4 blade seems to lift the entire boat , where the 3 blade seems to carry the nose a little higher . — 3 blade is faster , but 4 blade seems to carry the load better for me . — Ive dialed it in to run 72-74 with 2 guys and a half tank of gas with a tournament load of gear . — Youll have to drive it if youre running it wide open , or run at about 80% throttle and just cruise along — As these guys on here have said numerous times , seat time is what you need more than anything else . — Ive been playing with mine for a year now , and it can still put the fear into you once in a while . — Have fun , be safe , and enjoy the ride . —
Leave the top 2-3 inches of the the fenders above water . Sometimes have to ” JUMP ” it into place due to ramp angle .
I had the same trouble with my maxxum . — Before you try the ground wire on the skeg , make sure you test for transient voltage in the motor case . — I found out the hard way ( $200.00 for a control board ) that the positive brush holder lead had made contact with the motor case on the inside . — Motor will still work fine , but when you hit the power it sends voltage out through the case . — If this has heppened to yours , as soon as you start the motor with the new ground wire hooked up it will let all the magic smoke out of the control board . — Thats when you say “OOPS” and get out your checkbook . —
I found some interesting reading on the tire issue and thought I would pass it along to anyone interested. — Just go to Google and type in Special trailer tire design , then scroll down until you find Special trailer tires versus passenger tires . — It tells you all you need to know about trailer tire construction . — Just an F.Y.I. kinda thing .
dbasketman wrote:My “rule of thumb”,,,,replace ALL trailer tires every four years, period. Dont care if its utility, cargo, boat,,,,all go freakin bad bout that time from my experience.YUP!!
Theres only one thing wrong with a day like that , and that is the point where you have to quit and go home .
