I have to keep my boat outside, and my Aurora cover has done a great job of keeping the boat dry. My Sabre stays on a concrete pad next to my house, and is in the shade most of the time. The boat has even rode out tropical storms outside, and the cover has kept the boat dry.
I would suggest grabbing ahold of the pedestal with a big pair of channel lock pliers and twisting back an forth. You also might want to put some type of penetrating oil in the base of the pedestal. The channel locks will probably scratch the pedestal, but you probably need a new one anyway.
I think that, if I remember, some experts years ago said that various colors lose their color as the light penetration decreases. I believe red is the first color to go, and blue maintains its color with the least light. They also said the colors change to a grey. Who knows what a bass sees, and how it affects it. Does color make a difference? It sure does. What color is the best? The color you have the most confidence in. As far as red line, a lot of fish were caught on gold Stren. Any of yall remember that stuff?
I fish coastal rivers in Eastern North Carolina. Amen about the “scum lines”. I have a 02 Sabre with a white boot, and I clean the boat after each use using Greased Lightning. It has worked for me for 6 years.
Try using Greased Lighting. Spray it on, and wipe off with old terry cloth towels, rags, etc.
I thought that the oil would float on water. That is why if you have water in the gearcase it will come out first when you remove the bottom plug.
Can anybody tell me how to bleed the brakes using the sprayer?
I had a 1987 Procraft 1780, and the listed hull weight for the boat was 1200 pounds, as best as I recall.
That boat should run great with the 150. I think that you need to just get it set up right for a heavy load. It will take some time, but BCB and this forum will help.
I have a 2002 Sabre, and it is rated for 175 HP. When I bought my boat in 02, it was a “Certificate” boat (boat and trailer). I got a great deal on the rig. I also got a super deal on a brand new, in the box, 1997 150 HP Suzuki (2 stroke, EFI). The boat and motor have performed wonderfully. I am 61 years old, and this may be my last boat. Short of a wreck or something, the boat will probably outlast me. But the motor is another story. One day I will have to replace the motor. I cant really outrun any body, cause most everybody has 200s or up. Thats ok. What I DEMAND is a good hole shot, and I am willing to give up a little on top for that hole shot, if necessary. With the price of gas, something has got to give. I live in eastern NC, and by far the most popular motor overall is the Yamaha 4 stroke. The most popular motor on bass boats around here are Optimax. Here are motor weights, on 20″ shaft 4 stroke motors. 150/175 Verado-510 lbs. 150/175 Suzuki -474 lbs. 150 Yamaha-466 lbs. A 150/175 Optimax weighs 431. Now, what would be wrong with the Suzuki or Yamaha on my boat? Does any one really know what kind of performance I could expect. By the way, I dont want a DFI motor made by any body. Just a hard headed old mans opinion! PS- My 2 stroke Suzuki is a heavy motor. I have looked but cant find the weight, but it is heavy.
I changed from a 1999 Motor Guide to a Minn Kota Maxxum several years ago, and I didnt have to drill any new holes in the boat.
Luvtofish, could you email me some pictures? jrmeyer24@gmail.com. Thanks! dbasketman, the caddy looks good, also. I will do some measuring and see how one will fit a Sabre. Thank you also.
Bama and Florida still have to play. Lets just wait and see what happens. Bama never had a chance against Miami in 92 either. Roll Tide!
I was getting regular updates on the LSU-Troy game while in Bryant-Denny Stadium during the the Bama- Miss State game. This goes to show why teams tee the ball up and play. And Bama isnt immune. Remember last year when La Monroe beat Bama? As far as football in NC, you be the judge. Roll Tide!
Ill tell you what I think- great hole shot, no torque, no chine walk. I also think you will get more speed as you become more familar with the boat. For now it seems to me you have a pretty good set-up
