Joey, check your email buddy, Id love to have that 27P.
I have heard these prop rev up to 5000 when you hit it, bite, then blast off.
Im going to check on the armature. Is that something I can do myself, or do I have to take it in? My TM is a 2006 model. Where would a fella find this thing on the motor, and how hard is it to get to it? I think that sounds like it may be the deal b/c when the big motor was cranked, I had the TM still in the water. So as I would idle, Im sure the blade on the TM turned and then bingo. Once, I had it on 100% continuous and it was turned hard right. I started moving and then my boat made a sharp turn to the right. It took a second for me to figure out what was going on. Thanks for all the help!
After running my Cat for 2 years with a hydro. plate, I can tell you the sweet spot changes from day to day. If you put the plate all the way down, it will be very hard to drive on the top end. This will make the chine walk at its worst. Ideally, you want to raise the plate until you feel a touch of prop torque when running all out. The other difference from the Ranger, you do not need to trim all the way out. My boat runs best with the nose down. Get her going and trim it up high to lift the bow and trap air underneath. Then as she starts to scream, bump your trim down a time or two and the nose will drop, the prop will bite and you will gain speed. If it is trying to walk, bump your plate up some and it will stabilize as the prop torque increases. If there is too much prop torque, bump the plate down until you feel just a touch of torque. The Short story: Higher Jackplate= less walk and more torque But, dont get the plate too high as it will loose water pressure and tend to throw blades from the prop (Trophy props). My boat planes best with the plate just low enough to allow a quick blow out as it tips over (A touch above the half way point) Last tip, on rough days, trim down, and drop the plate to the bottom. That helps my Cougar ride on top of the junk for an outstanding ride. Now this is advice from the old style hull, the new hulls may change this a bit. Congrats on making a great decision, you will love your boat more and more each time you are in it. I actually told mine goodnight last time I put her up:)
Im running a 26P Fury on a Cougar FTD with 225 Pro XS. It planes off like my 25P Trophy (good!), but it turns rpms similar to my 27P Trophy…5600-5700 in this heat. I got it to 76.1 yesterday before running out of lake. I was still accelerating pretty good. I was pretty light on fuel (6-8 gallons in one tank), all my gear, about 6 rods, live wells empty, by myself. It was close to 100 degrees here in TX at the time. I bet the hole shot with a 25P would be amazing, and you should run good on top as well. I would go with the 25P for all around use, although I cant wait to see what she will do when the weather cools down. My record is 77.6 with a worked 26 Trophy with a fishing load under ideal conditions. BTW, pull all the PVS holes, the barrel is so long it dosent tend to blow out like a Trophy. Also, be careful not to jump it over your truck when putting it on the trailer.
Where exactly is this silver piece? I dont think I have one. I have been beating them up at PK and Ray Roberts pretty good. I had 30-40 in my last trips to both lakes. Most were small schoolies on a drop shot, but i did manage a 6, a 5, a 4, and a hand full of 2-3s. Ive spent more on drop shot weight recently than I care to admit. Good to hear from you Judd, take care buddy. BCB, is there any danger to trailering my boat? Can I wait until winter to have it fixed? Ive got a 2 hour tow this up comming weekend.
Sounds like a blast, but we are expecting our second child in November. So, Ill just have to stay close to home and sneek out to RR when I can. I will certainly give you some inside info. when you are headed this way. Just let me know when you are coming. Usually a good rock bite when it cools off good.
Hopefully our offence will pick up next week…..sheesh
I was there from 99 through 03. Anyone else out there?
I have run a 26 Fury on My 2006 Cougar FTD/225 ProXS combo. I carry a pretty heavy load, and it seems to be sensitive to weight more than my Trophy. It planes and accelerates like a 25 Trophy, and I have seen over 76.2 running on fumes. When I carry 15-25 gallons of fuel, 74 is a real stretch. These are summer temps in TX. When I added my 280 pound Dad, I could only get 69. That is the first time I could not break 70 in my boat. With a worked 26 Trophy, I have run my boat and with me 2 other big fellas, and a big load at 73. I think a light boat will really perform with the Fury, but in my experience, the Trophy seems more consistant when loaded. The Fury will put your boat in the bed of your truck, so if loading your rig is a problem, try a Fury for sure. My rig turns the 26 Fury to 5600-5700 rpm.
Advice on location of more drains? Like in each corner maybe? I noticed when the waves would roll me side to side the water was sloshing in the floor from side to side. I thought, man, some drain areas on the side would sure be nice.
Thanks guys for the detailed effort. This is why I remain a proud Cat owner. Its really hard to find those willing to take time for the details these days. I have the perkos, and Ive just learned to stand on them or put a knee on them, and to position them flat again so as not to have a trip hazard. They never give me any trouble. I guess a different way to look at this; out of all the issues that you read about on other pages regarding bass boat issues (gel coat, transom issues, drop in boxes, trailer rust, poor customer support, fit and finish etc, etc, etc……) Im so thankful that we have the time to focus so much attention to what I consider to be a minor detail that can be easily fixed at the customers whim. Im also very thankful to have a place to come and present issues that are addressed promptly not from the bottom up through the ranks of the company, but from the top down. Rick, Ive held a high opinion of you since receiving my hand written letter after purchasing my boat. Spending hours on a response on the day of Christmas Eve, Sir you just went up a few more knotches in my book. A sincere thank you for your commitment to making things right. Merry Christmas to all
I guess this will be a case by case issue, but are gel coat issues covered?

I have a gauge on mine that quit working. In time you will develop a feel for it. I just trim it up enough to free the boat and find the pad, then adjust the engine height to give me a touch of Prop torque. If its trying to walk on me, it means the engine is too low, it there is a handful of steering torque, I go down with the engine. The feel varies with the load, so to say I have one setting that is perfect is not correct in my boat. I run it slightly different every time out. I see the dial as something else that might eventually need to be fixed. I have found that running at medium speeds (40-60), I can adjust the engine height to eliminate prop torque. Its like the engine has power steering. However, if you go full throttle in this position, it will dance quite a bit, thus, I will move it up some to feel a touch of prop torque and the walking is gone- 75 mph on a rail. ( I run a 225 ProXS). BTW, My engine likes the Fury run lower in the water than my worked Trophy. Also, my boats planes faster with the engine higher than I usually run it. As Im trimming the boat out, Im usually moving the motor down a bit. I do love the adjustability of the hydro plate and I think it gives me a spare 1-2 mph, but many will tell you that they are not needed to make these boats perform really well.
