Hi,Just like to know if your boat is still available. I recently sold my 1995 Eyra and I really miss it, but it was 15 years old and time to upgrade. I dont know much about the Pantera 4, but it looked like a nice boat. I think I want a Cougar but would consider a Pantera 4 . It looks like it is big enough to handle rough water.I bought a like new Triton TR186 ( a repo which was rarely used…..only 8 hours on the engine ) which is a nice boat, but it is not the same as a basscat. If you like you can reply to Don at dg504@ bellsouth.netThanks Don
Thanks for the input Ward……….I feel the same way about water pressure speedos. My old BP100 dash had a barometric pressure function which was nice to have…much more useful than the speedometer I rely on my GPS for accurate speed readings also. I just wanted it to work because it is there and should work…. also without the speedometer working, the distance traveled function does not work. I have no idea how accurate that function might be , but it works now also. Thanks againDon
I have Speed reading on Humminbird 997……Thats what I look at for accuracy. Just wanted the speedo to work because its there. Something to look at if I cant find those deep water magnum spots on Lanier…….Which is always the case for me . Fall and winter OK, but August is tough !
Didnt realize it could be hooked up to GPS via nmea cable……Thats something I will keep in mind. You guys are always helpful……Basscat people !
I tow my Cougar FTD with a 2007 Tundra Limited extended cab w/ 5.7 engine………get 12 1/2 to 13 mpg if I keep it around 65 to 70 mph and the terrain is not too hilly. I rarely get over 70 mph , but gas mileage suffers if I do. 75 to 80 will drop it to about 10 mpg.Hope this helps a littleDon
What ramp at Hartwell………Looks like Poplar Springs ? I have launched there a few times, but dont get to fish that lake very often. Lanier is much closer for me.Great looking Cougar !
I bought a slightly used 2010 Cougar FTD…250 pro XS engine. Came with 25 Fury. Hole shot just OK in cool weather and light load. In warm weather, 13/15 gal in each tank and water in livewell and two people there was NO hole shot. Took FOREVER to plane off and Im not exaggerating. I see post where some are running 26 and even 27 furys with excellent hole shot and top speed in high 70s. I can see the speed but not the hole shot. Mine will turn the 25 fury at 6100 / 6200 RPM ( 75 plus MPH ) so the engine is strong but it wont get up on plane with stated load. I put a 24 Tempest plus on and it is better but still not great out of the hole. Top speed dropped to 72 / 73 MPH but thats OK, I rarely run more than 60 MPH ( getting too old for that ) I have not hit the rev limiter with either prop and would try a 23 tempest ( or 24 fury ) if I had one to get better hole shot. I have no doubt that I would get on the limiter with a 23 Tempest plus or maybe even with a 24 fury but I could control that. Maybe its just my way of thinking, but I think most people run too much prop searching for more speed and thats OK if thats what is important to them , but I believe thats hard on engines and a killer for hole shot in my experiences. Well thats just my 2 cents worth. BTW…. I love the mid range and handling of the 25 Fury….but it was just too much prop for my set up.Would love to here about anyone running a 24 Fury on a Cougar or Puma FTD with 250 pro XS. What kind of hole shot and handling could I expect. Would hole shot be better than the 24 Tempest plus ?
I have a clean 2010 Cougar FTD . It is well equipped …has power pole, humminbird 997 & 957, 250 pro xs. , smartcraft gauges , 36 volt motorguide , hambys etc. I dont know for sure if I will sell it , but Im thinking about an Eyra . It is not exactly a low hour boat , so it may not be what you want. I think it has 250 / 300 hours on it. ( warranty until oct. or nov . of 2014 ) Ive inquired about a 2012 Eyra , but not heard back from him yet , so until then I wont know what Ill do about putting this one up for sale. It is a really nice boat. If you would like to discuss by mail, do so at [email protected].
I have same equipment but single console. Bought slightly used with new 25 Fury. Hole shot OK in cold weather even with 2 people ( 230lbs. each ) water in live well and maybe 14 / 15 gal in each tank. Outstanding midrange performance. I really like the fury……however in warm weather and same load there was no hole shot. Took forever to plane off even though top RPM was about 6100 and 75 plus mph. My experience may be different from many others on this board, but I went to a 24 Tempest plus which is 2 / 3 mph slower but has better hole shot and only slightly more RPM. Midrange is not quite as good as the Fury but OK. First ran Tempest with no plugs…that didnt work ! With 2 plugs was good and recently tried it with only 1 plug and to my surprise it worked great…..no cavatation and even better hole shot than with 2 plugs. Have not hit rev limiter with either prop . Would really like to try a 24 fury. If anyone here has run a 24 Fury on a Cougar / 250 pro XS I would love to know How it worked out.Hope you get it all set up to your satisfaction whatever prop you settle on.
What RPMs did you get with the 24 Fury…. Also what is max RPM for the Yamaha 175 ?
Not exactly what you prefer. Im not looking to sell but would consider it………Im moving in the near future ( next 5 / 6 weeks ) and not sure about where I will have to put the boat except at a friends business since I want it kept inside or covered ! 2010 Cougar FTD…250 pro xs…36 volt MG …smart craft gauges….Humminbird 997@ console…..957 bow…..4 bank Nocco charger… upgraded tires & wheels….brakes on both axles…. Power poleNo hot foot. Black boot White side / blue insert with silver trim…..blue deck….grey carpet…..Engine still under warranty Would consider $37,500.00Hope you find just the right boat, but we could correspond if you want to think about this one. email address [email protected]
Now Thats Funny………..Good One Tideman !
Im running a Tempest plus on my Cougar FTD about 1/4 to 3/8 inch higher on the jack plate with very little steering torque. Its just right for me , but I hear the Fury runs better a little lower in the water so you should be close to where it needs to be. It wouldnt hurt to try a little higher to see if if suits you better , but 79 plus is pretty strong !BTW……Really like that color combination ! Beautiful Boat !Don
I had the same issue recently on my 2010 engine. Two top head bolts on the starboard side ( 250 pro xs ) came completely out. The top head gasket ( “O” ring type on these engines ) was blown which causes the engine to over heat on that side if not shut down when the alarm goes off. Obviously the alarm goes off to warn you before any damage occurs. Of course I did that and no damage was done to the cylinder or head ! I took it to a Marina / Dealership with a Master Mechanic and he replaced all head gasket “O” rings and ALL head bolts on both cylinder banks !. Twenty bolts on each side. The head bolts are stretch bolts and should never be reused ! Its up to you of course, but while its under warranty it might be a good thing to discuss this with another dealership and ask about checking the head gaskets and replacing all the bolts with new bolts. BTW. All of mine were just a little bit loose. Have no idea why , but they were. This is not something Ive heard about often, but it happens. It did on mine and yours !Good Luck and tight linesDon
