Thanks for all the help I will probably order a 26 fury from Jacos. Will post feed back when i get it on and running.
Well if i take both hands and pull it back into neutral it will fire up, but it is almost impossible to get it into neutral. What does that likely mean?
thanks guys for all the input. Yeah i was pretty releived to find out that is was a lower unit problem. Both gears were gone. William and Jeff told me there were several things that could cause this to happen but no one can be for sure. I am now waiting on an answer from Mercury whether it is covered under the warranty. Will keep everyone informed about how it goes. Once again thinks for all the info guys. Oh yeah tell Tony and Jeremy to leave the fish alone on Conroe they have been wearing them out. Phil good luck in Bass Champs this weekend.
Phil, first off congratulations on a good sack at bass n bucks to you an Jeremy. Second, I am going to call William and Mike tomorrow and see what they can do for me.
I am not putting this on William or Bowden by no means. I just thought when a problem like this occurred a Mercury representative would come to Bowdens shop and take a look at it to streamline the process. I did not know that the lower unit would have to be sent to Mercury (which will probably take a week) then a week to assess the damage then another week either to get the lower unit back from Mercury or get the insurance company involved. I just thought that it would be a quicker process than this. William has done all he could he thought that it would be a simple measurement of the tolerance of the prop shaft then notification of Mercury. However, becuase the prop shaft is in two pieces he cannot measure the tolerance. I have the utmost respect for William and Bowden Marine they have taken care of any little problem I have had with little or no hesitation. The skeg has a small ding in it; however, the skeg was bent when I bought the boat. That was many months ago and I have never had a problem with the way the boat performed or the lower unit. If there was a problem with a prop strike destroying the lower unit wouldnt there be a pretty good ding in the prop. William took his time looking at the prop and said that at most one ear may be bent very slightly, but nothing that should constitute a split prop shaft. The only problem I have is the amount of time it is going to take to resolve the problem; however, I am going to keep my head up and give Mercury the benefit of the doubt and hopefully everything is resolved quickly without issue. I hope no one takes my venting in the wrong way I was just thinking that there could be another way to resolve the issue without taking so much time.
Sorry guys I wanted input but I did not put what I was running.
Had my 2007 Cougar FTD with 225 pro xs 26p fury in the water on sunday for the second time. The 225 turns the 26 fury at 5700 rpms and ran it up to 73 with 400 lbs of meat (me and 15 year old cousin). I had a 26 trophy plus and with 2 people it would only run 69.8. The fury will also put the boat in the back of the truck on loading if you need to. I think the 73 will increase with adjustment on the jack plate. When running WOT I cannot throw a tail it looks like something you would ski behind. I am going to put it in the water again tomorrow and adjust the plate. I will post a reply and let you know if I get anymore out of it. The hole shot and acceleration are much better with the fury.
Clint, I dont know I have been measuring it off of the jack plate rather than getting out the straight edge and leveling everything. I know I came up 3/8″ from where the trophy plus was running. If you need me to I will get out the straight edge and measure everything for you.
I thought you were not selling the boat because you were going back to school?
Thanks guys! I will try it when I get to my boat.
Shap you are right it is a fast machine. The lake i spend most of my time on is very low right now so I havnt been able to stretch it out yet; however, David assured me that high 80s was not a problem. I was following a Triton the other day with a 250 pro xs at about 73 or 74 and was below 5K RPMs and kept having to ease off of it to keep from getting to close. I will be glad when we get some water back in the lakes around here so I can push it a little bit.
