Sounds good. I dont carry as much tackle as most tourney guys I know. My team partner weighs about 150 lbs. soakin wet. Ordered the single console only for space and less weight, as well as the dual aux. fuel tanks so I wont have to top off the underseat tank. Average hole shot works for me…optimum top end preferred. Would be tickled if this rig will run 72 loaded with a partner and livewells full with 25 gallons of fuel. Thanks for the info to all…see you at Rayburn Phil.
Giddy up Petro…thats what I wanted to hear. Cant wait to sit in my new rig, probably sleep on the deck with it the first night in the garage!
Okay Nela C., I like your input. Aim high! You are exactly like right on with the “S” boats…my other good buddy runs this “S” rig at 72-73 in 2.5 chop loaded with 2 “Lineman” size adults…not too shabby. My team partner runs a 2007 Cougar FTD with 225 and a 26 Tempest and top speed loaded with us both (with Detwiler) is 72.2. He ordered his initially with the 25 Tempest and topped out light at 70.5 and was all over the rev limiter with motor all the way down! My instinct tells me to go with the 26 Fury since it is a lighter prop, but, my dealer said hed swap out if I didnt like the pitch. Ill also run my partners 26 Tempest on my rig to compare……..just dont like spending a fortune on a new boat and not having it propped out right. I do appreciate your $.02 but to me, a boat that weighs in at 1800 lbs. dry with a 225 on the back of it would be doing well to get 72 fully loaded….be better if I could get 72 out of her in the same 2.5 chop that my buddys “S” boat gets. After all the input here from you guys…looks like I am back to square one scratching my head wondering which prop I should have ordered…..guess Ill just have to find out when my boat gets here………(hopefully not next year).
Heck, I’m proud too even though I haven’t taken in ride in my new Puma yet. Still waiting for the dealer to call me with a “come pick up your new ride”. The 2 short weeks has turned into 4…but, I guess good things come to those who wait! The JD power Awards, Bass Cat owners I know personally, Rick and BCB, along with this “site” are exactly the reasons I decided to go with a new Bass Cat. What other boat company cares as much about it’s owners than BCB? Of course, it sure impacts one’s decision making when his partner chauffers him around Rayburn in a ’07 FTD Cougar that fishes and rides as smooth as silk and is absolutely the driest riding boat he’s ever ridden in. Hope to return the favor soon with a ’09 Puma so my partner can give his rig a little breather!!!
Sounds like it is true then. The dealer I went thru are top notch folks…but as busy as they seem to be, might takeem some time to get a clothing thing done…..wonder if BassCat would let me bypass the middle man?
Thanks, Ill check it out with the McGuard folks…I think the prop shaft on the 225 proxs is fatter than the standard Optimax…at least thats what I was told when I got my boat.
Man, you guys are all over it….even asked the dealer and they were baffled. So, If I leave it on “Empty”….no water will get in the livewells unless I switch it to “Auto” and/or turn on the Aerator. My last boat had “Open” and “Closed”…open let water in and out…and closed kept water in and out. Guess Ive nothing to complain about on my new boat….and just to throw in a “plug”, my new Puma will flat out roar through 2 to 3 foot chop…no more looking at my buddys rooster tail behind his Skeeter…glad to hear him finally stop laughing. Cant say enough how impressed I am with this BassCat…I have actually tried to get wet in this rig but cant do it…..would have to go through a wave to see water in this boat. I have ridden in just about everything but a Ranger Z520…this is the best overall performing boat I have set foot in!
You are slow….if at WOT and 5800 rpms that is, and under calmer conditions. I had this motor on my last boat with the 27 T1 (not a Bass Cat)…and the 27T1 did not carry a load well at WOT with 2 people and livewells full…it is a huge prop. I think you are good with the 25 T1…should carry the heavy load better at top end. I think 2 inches below pad is too high…shoot for 3 to 3 3/4 inches below pad (I measure from the ground to the pad, then the ground to the prop shaft at level trim…and subtract the difference to avoid “eye ballin”). Make sure the trim is calibrated correctly…Ive got the 225 Pro xs on my 09 Puma with a 26 Fury and I can get youre numbers (almost exactly) in light chop with comparable weight at 3 1/2 inches below pad. That Yamaha should run at least 3 mph hour faster than my 225 Merc…..I loved that motor…would have gotten another one if the warranty was 5 years instead of 3 years. My guess would be 74 to 76 mph with your setup at the right engine height with light chop to calm conditions. I have two tourney buddies that run “S” I-class and ZX250 with the same motor and prop that you have and they run 74 and 76mph respectively under similar conditions with tournament loads…I have ridden shotgun, so I am not just taking their word for it. Your Puma is at least as fast a hull as the Skeeter…Ill swear by it…and as for the Craftsmanship of your rig…well, thats the reason I own a Basscat now!!!
Kickapoo Creek…North of the bridge…dont be shy about throwing unconventional stuff…even in the winter…try to find depressions in Kickapoo that are a foot to two foot deeper than other areas…make sure you have a jig tied on. Run the eastern shoreline from the bridge and cut across west at the powerline….Warning…the stumps on Palestine are “like steel”….even when idling…carry as light a load as possible…3/4 of the field of most tourneys will be in there with you. Only reason Im so generous is that I tore a hole in my boat last time I was there and vowed “never to go back”…that was from just idling thru stumps…never seen anything like the stumps on Palestine. If you want to win…..Kickapoo is where youll do it majority of the time. If your fishing a team deal…might have your partner sit on the front deck and help you navigate…………I am not kidding how bad those stumps are!!!!!!!!!
Valid comment since youve been down this road twice…..take a lesson from me and carry a portable in your truck whenever you travel…been there more than once too!!!
Been down this road too…….excessive idling causes the plug fouling…..along without running it hard regularly…and using a decarbon treatment as well as a yearly manual decarb is a must…idle on !!!
Bass Pro Shops had it on the shelf.
Got a 09 Puma with 225 ProXS….26 Fury…awesome hole shot…will run 74.9 with just me and 20 gallons of fuel. Still has great hole shot loaded with livewells full and two people…tops out loaded about 72.5. Rpms lag a bit at 5700…other than that, awesome prop.
Good advice. Hate to mess with something that is working just fine. Ill see what happens when it gets 100 degrees this summer.
Nela C. I hear what youre saying. I think it varies from rig to rig. My last boat registered highest on the GPS in July on Toledo @ same rpms…I could not tell any difference during the Winter time, but I have been in boats that “dog” in the heat. I guess the real question I should ask is…Would a 25 Fury be faster loaded than the 26 Fury on my rig? Heck, whether it is a team tourney or draw, I always have someone with me. I just hate to part with the prop I have if Ill lose top end. Only real way to know is to try one. Honestly, 72+ loaded on a Puma with a 225 seems pretty good to me, be hard to believe dropping a pitch would make it any faster…just might be better easier on the motor Id guess. Ive tinkered with props for years now, and I know what it means to be over pitched. I feel like the 26 Fury is right at the edge of being over- propped on my rig loaded….thats why I posed the question.
