What size wheel does BCB use? I assume 15×7 but what type car/truck does it match up with? While browsing around sites it usually ask for a car description. Also what backspace offset is used? thanks
thanks for all the responses! any idea on approx cost to do this? I guess i need to factor fuel cost as well, its a long ride from austin,tx. I am curious though if a custom trailer manuf could do the same thing. I would lve for BCB to do it but it may not be cost effective after the fueel cost of getting there and back…
Jslaw, I had a P classic and the only thing i didnt like was it was a bit narrow at the front. Moved to a P4 and have no complaints…its the perfect boat for me really. I have not been able to look at a P2 although i had heard it was wider than the classic. I really enjoy my P4 and the only problem i have is fitting it in the garage without a swing tongue. My old house it wasnt a problem because i had a metal carport/garage it was always covered. We moved and now it needs to fit in garage. I know BCB can do the conversion to the tongue but with fuel costs from tx to ark its about a $1500 option for me now. I can fit a P2/P4 in the garage with swing tongue, a new trailer is too costly a option, so i guess i either need to buy new or make the drive. But your right, i really think with my style of fishing i would not be happy at all giving up the width of the P4 and i could care less about the speed. LB
Fishmagnet, sent you a pm about a new lowrance unit
Thanks,Just thought there would be a little more clearance than a 1/2 inch. Had a classic and P4 and they were nowhere near that close so i thought i would ask…
Al,I have had both. The P4 has a much wider front deck than the classic. The beam is about the same on both but the P4 carries the width further forward hence the wider front deck. I have a sabre ftd now just due to garage space. The P4 is the ultimate boat as long as you dont need/want a 20 plus footer. Plus, the deck layout on the P4 is the is pretty close to the same as the puma. Hope it helps.
Bowden Marine in Humble,TX has a new one with a Merc 200xs on it believe. I saw it the other day and its white/off white with red stripes…sharp boat.I dont know if it was already sold or a stocking unit though you can give them a call. Great dealershipLarry
John,Thanks for the reply. Its odd that it looks like some sabre ftds or otherwise have a lot of clearance and some like mine have very little. Im sure the trailers are made on the same jigs so I wonder why the difference? Thanks for the tip about the cable lock I had not thought about it but will get one as well to lock it up. I also bought a cover for the spare but it wont fit as the tire touches the trailer on both sides of the trailer frame. Mine does have a hambys so i think that might have taken up some clearance but it wouldnt seem like more than and inch more clearance without the hambys. Anyway, thanks for the help!
thanks for the reply,Its tighter than i have ever seen as well and this is my 3rd basscat and the other 2 (06 p-classic and a 06 P4) had plenty. I can certainly send you pictures if you give me an email address. I sent pics to Pete who showed them to a trailer supervisor. The reply was that they had only seen that a couple of other times? Thats where the idea for some sort of roller would be built and sent for me to drill and bolt to the trailer flush to the hull so it wouldnt drop down. To be honest i wasnt real keen on this idea because of the constant contact when loading/unloading but that was a few weeks ago and it hasnt arrived. I would really prefer to keep the spare where it was designed to be as it looks best there but it just wont work. I just cant imagine that the hambys took up that much room? It was factory installed so im sure its put on properly. It looks to me like either the spare cradle is welded on to shallow or the boat itself is sitting to low on the bunks or bow stop. Im at a loss as what to do at this point so any help is appreciated. The side mount is a thought but then it starts to rub the paint and gatorhyde then rust begins which is why i would prefer to find some way to keep the factory spare position. Thanks
Yeah, Im not sure what is going on with the clearance problem. I cant get a number 2 pencil between the hambys and the spare tire. Whats odd is that some look like they have 3-4 inches and some look like almost none like mine. That tells me that if the same jigs are used for the trailers then something is either being warped in the process or somebody somewhere is using a different measurement than what is called for. The only true fix i can see at this point is to make the spare tire rack lower (deeper). This would require cutting it off and re-welding, painting, etc. And I am not doing that myself even if i could. If i was closer to the factory I would take it by and have them look at it but Im 600 miles one way from Texas. The rest of the boat is perfect as always so this is just frustrating me.
Thanks to both of you for the pics and the help.I have spoken with Pete (BCB) they made a wide roller and painted it to match. They are also supposed to send a rubber spacer of unknown size to possibly prop the front of the tire on to maybe give more clearance such as on Largemouths. I will try the rubber mount first and see what that does, not sure if the tandem trailer like LM as opposed to my single will make a difference but I will try it. Thanks again for the responses!
Mine came off as well on first trip just on the right side… wiping it down and only saw the fish was left. I emailed parts and had one in about 5 days…great service as always. Mine left no residue at all that i could tell, it looks like it was never there(residue wise) so who knows. I have not put the new one on yet but can say that it does not appear that the adhesive is that great as it is already peeling away from the backing easily and is not tacky. I actually thought about taking it all off and trying to get the new vertical BCB stickers for the rear of the hull and calling it a day. Problem is it does look good with the domed decals
Bill,Im not much help on the gelcoat repair but… I read a short while ago on the TX Fishing Forum that the same damage occurred to a bunch of guys boats. A company had just laid this garbage on the road and it was not done properly. Apparently before allowing vehicle traffic it has too be pressed in properly then swept and so forth to prevent damage from the rock. I forget the lake but it has alot of traffic to it and if i remember right about 30 boats had alot of damage to the trailers and fenders. Most had not thought to look under the hull from the truck tires and when they did they were sick from what they saw. Long story short they contacted the paving company and the companies insurance was taking care of all the damage. Just a thought and hope it helps.Larry
thanks, its pretty tight in that area as well due to the throttle when full forward (no hotfoot) and a pop up cleat. I will check that area again though. Were you able to get behind the mounting area for bolts or did you just use screws? thanks again
Thanks,I have the Sabre FTD so no handrails or I would go that route. I also checked again and no room for the ram moount in front of shifter. Its tight being a sabre and the pop up cleat takes up the remaining room. The onlly other thought I had was to mount it on the side of the console and either take the windshield off or cut a circular hole out of the windshield for the ball mount to come through. Dont care for this idea that much either though so I may be stuck.
