Thanks Flyswatter. It was actually an enjoyable project. Now, I have to put my sweet wife on some crappie this weekend so I can start working an angle to get an 8 for the front.
I added an HDS-8 at the console on my Sabre and kept the 520 in-dash (for now). Run SS and maps on the 8. Run 2D on the 520. Ill swap it with an HDS-5 eventually and use it for mapping.
Try BOE Marine. You can get 100.00 rebate on an HDS-5 insight with 50/200khz transducer. Would cost less than the 5 w/o a transducer.
Saw an add-on carpeted pad on BBC that Aurora will make to order. Snaps in place along the edges, I believe. I would love to have some padding for comfort, but to be honest, I didnt care for the overall appearance. They may have redesigned it a bit since I saw it. Suppose ill just keep buying expensive Asics cushioned running shoes for padding.
I know they dont look as high tech as a Talon or a PP, but is good electric or hand crank anchor system not feasible on a bass boat? Are there any out there that will fit nicely on a Sabre, etc., and allow you to lock the anchor in place once retracted so it doesnt beat the boat up? I guess Im old school, but I just cant get used to the look of a Talon or PP hanging off my boat. Just my preference.
It likely is a sensor on the motor as the experts stated, but I wanted to mention that I had the same thing happen yesterday after I shut my 07 Opti 150 down after a run. Turned out the beeping came from my HDS-8 low voltage alarm. Was set at 11 volts and I had been running my SS all day.Just a thought in case it turns out not to be the engine.
When wired my HDS-8 up last month I found a spare Red and Black wire with butt connectors under the dash near the accessory light and socket. They were spares off the master switch. Worked like a charm. Had to dig around a bit to find them. Might look for a spare pair off the master.
Ive got a tandem on Sabre FTD and I love. I believe it rides much smoother than a single axle which is a must on some of the roads where I live. Just my perception. I also like the extra piece of mind if I ever had a blow out at highway speeds. Plus, the boat just looks badass on a tandem.Ill likely buy another if and when I decide to buy another Cat. Everybody has a preference I guess.
On an analog trim gauge youll have marks that denote the different trim levels. My trim gauge has 5 marks. Bottom (Takeoff) – 1/4 trim – 1/2 trim – 3/4 trim – Full Trim (Top). I never have to look back at the engine anymore. Just watch the gauge until I hit my mark. My Sabre FTD is trim sensitive. I never make it past the 1/4 trim mark when running.
I posted a question about the Navionics GoFree WiFi module on BBC.=15pxhttp://www.bbcboards.net/lowrance-garmi … -ipad.htmlNavionics is supposed to be putting an App in coming months that will allow you to use an iPad, phone, or other wireless device to display information from an HDS unit.Since its essentially a display you should get sonar, maps, or whatever is displayed on the main unit. Ill send an e-mail to Lowrance later this week and see what they have to say.
Stainless Steel chain, SS turnbuckle attached to the trailer, SS snap attached to the boat eye. Home Depot.
Agree on a blue/silver version. Black, blue, silver Sabre FTD.
Always best to use an aluminum backing plate. Only needs to be slightly bigger than the diameter of your Ram mount base. I used a 4″x4″ plate to mount a D-111-U (3.65″ base, 2.5″ ball). Make sure the backer will fit under the dash in the area where the base will be located, position the base and mark and drill the holes. Re-install the backer and mark the pre-drilled holes. Take a look at the Transducer Shield and Saver mounting base. Comes with SS hardware and makes routing your wires easy. I used a little 3M 5200 behind the backer and the base. I second that. I have a number of uses (on the boot, truck window, etc,) for Blue and Silver decals to match my boat.
Ive never owned a four stroke engine. The people I know that own them rave about the gas mileage, but also comment on the difference in response vs. the two stroke. I dont know from experience. But, my 07 150 Optimax is about as cheap to operate as I can imagine. I burn non-ethanol, use the Merc cocktail (1 oz Quickleen, 1 oz Quickcare per 6 gallons) and run DFI Semi-synthetic oil. No complaints about gas mileage and definitely doesnt burn any oil. And it only has a 2 Star rating vs. 3 star for a Pro XS. I would be hard pressed to buy a 4 stroke unless that was my only choice. Are they that much more fuel efficient and clean burning vs. a 2 stroke?
