I think that “family” is a great way to describe what has been created with you, your boat owners, and this site. You are right about Ivy, on the test drive she had three fish in the boat before I even got a strike!
2010 Rules clearly state you cannot bring a GPS, I would think that would extend into 2011.http://assets.espn.go.com/winnercomm/ou … _final.pdfPage 4 – C12 – Marshall Obligations
I tow my Puma with an ľ ton truck as well. Be sure you don’t have the tow/haul engaged especially when running down hills. The way the trailer brakes work is on pressure from the coupler on the trailer ball. The engine braking on the diesel trucks can make the trailer brakes overheat if you are using it to slow the truck down.
After two trips to Home Depot and one trip to Lowes, the coupler that fits is a 3″ PVC, it can be found in the sewer and drain fittings section. The schedule 40 and schedule 80 fittings are to thick to fit in the holder. Black ABS fittings are just a hair to small. I also tried some reducers, that are wider at the top but found they fit a little loose in the cup holder, the straight PVC coupler friction fits very well. Thanks for the idea!Last edited by Tnbigdaddy on January 29th, 2011, 1:52 am, edited 1 time in total.
The boat is a 2010 Puma FTD. I am good with the voltage spike explanation previously given. My concern now is to make sure I have enough power going to the 998 and 958 as they can have degraded performance, if any at all on low voltage connections. I can run wires down the bilge directly to the batteries if needed, but wanted to make things as simple as possible by re-using existing power supplies if they can effectively operate the unit.
Thanks all. I was at the grocery store today and could not find the DOW manufactured Scrubbing Bubbles, only the Johnson and Johnsons. Wonder if that product was bought by J&J………Will look at Home Depot for the DOW made.
None of the chokes helped my interference issue. The only thing that has helped a little so far is a ground wire from the neg battery post to the TM shaft, now the interference is intermittent. From everything I have been told, the interference just happens on some units. Some units have issues and some dont regardless of TM type or battery set up. 100 boats with the same set up can be just fine, but the next boat in line will have it.
I have the Rock Tamers, the Towtectors offer a more complete center coverage but are twice the cost.
If you have a hot foot be sure you are pushing the shift lever far enough forward to disengage the neutral position sensor. With just a little movement of the shifter the engine will go from neutral to forward gear, but still not be moved off the neutral position sensor and cause the alarm on acceleration over 1800 rpms. Push the shift lever all the way forward and see if that fixes the issue. I was pretty embarrassed to find out that it was me causing the issue by not pushing the shifter far enough forward in a effort to keep it off my leg. The moving from forward to neutral and back again made the problem consistently intermittent (LOL) because I would sometimes push the shifter far enough forward to get it off the switch.Don’t have any input on the loss of communication issue.
And a couple box fans to dry it the rest of the way.
Thanks BCB!
Thanks everyone for the replies. I spent some time on the phone with Danny Roberts @ Stealth1, verifying that the charger is doing what its supposed to do – output, voltage, and cycling. The charger is doing what it is supposed to do with output and is not overcharging or charging when its not supposed to be. I can only assume that the battery got an internal short igniting the hydrogen gas and causing the case to rupture. Danny will teach you more than you ever wanted to know about batteries, charging, and voltage…….. He is definitely a stand up business owner who will talk with you after hours or on the weekends. My boat is 8 years old and the warranty is up but he still took the time to speak with me after hours while I was at the boat with a voltmeter in hand to prove out everything was working correctly. Top notch customer service!
