The 7 series Side Imaging units are awesome little units but if youre looking to split the screen they are a bit small. Actually any 5″ unit really is small for splitting. I always like to put the external GPS antenna on the bow of the boat so I dont run over my spots… no sense seeing them 20 feet after you get on top of them…. regarding the transducer… jackplate mounts are the easiest by far.. depending on the plate you have you can drill a hole in the bottom side and thru bolt the transducer right to the jack… just remember to give the ducer a bit of nose down angle to compensate for the boat sitting rear end low when idling around… this will give you more accurate depth and imaging readings…JP
Make sure when you first start them up you select “fully participate in the network” for both units. The other trick is that both have to be on for the transfer to take place instantly… if one is off then when you turn on the second machine it will ask you what you want to do and go through the whole downloading thing… I save all my spots to the Interlink and make sure both are on while in the boat. Saves me a lot of time in the end.JP
Hi Bobcat, sorry it took so long to respond, Ive been AWOL for a while now dealing with work, a new house and of course tournaments… Lake Temagami is a great fishery for a lot of different fish… smallmouth bass, lake trout, walleye just to name a few! You wont find too many if any largemouth up there but there are lakes in the area that have them and great fishing as well. Just South of you is Lake Nippissing which has great smallmouth and largemouth fishing… BTW.. the largemouth are absolute suckers for frogs and jigs… our fish are way less pressured than most lakes South of the border so be ready to catch some decent numbers on your trip. If youre going after the smallmouth, concentrate on jerkbaits (4″) in Ayu, crankbaits (4 to 16 foot divers), tubes (3.5″ in green pumpkin and smoke) and dont leave your topwaters at home… Pop R style baits and walkers can get great results… double willow spinnerbaits can also do some damage… 1/2 oz with chartreuse white skirt and gold or silver blades. The techniques for up[ there are endless so if you have a fav style dont be afraid to try it… dropshot is another deadly technique… pick unsalted minnow style baits that are 3-4″. same colors as the tubes. If you need any specific info I can try to dig up more for you… just let me know. Thanks to dblplasaber for letting me know about this post!JP
Regarding the chip, Navionics Hotmaps Premium 2009 has Temagami on it in good detail, running with the chip is pretty straight forward… no wooded boat lanes up here…lolWalleye live a little deeper in the summer and hate light so early morning and dusk are prime activity times… drop shot, 1/4 oz jig head with a grub (twister tail) (3″) in white, smoke, or yellow seem to be Northern staples… Fintech Knuckle Ball jigs are great for pounding bottom and not getting caught in the rocks constantly…the Walleye also will eat crankbaits and jekbaits if you can get them in front of one. I have not fished Temagami but have fished around it a bit so my best advice would be to surf some sites to dig up info and also call some lodges to talk to the owners… especially if youre staying at one!BTW… most of the locals will tip their grubs with nightcrawlers, minnows or leeches… Im not big on bait but its hard to argue the success rates for walleye.JP
Glad to hear hes doing well Rick.
I have put over 85 hours on my 250 SHO without a single hiccup. The motor has been everything that I had hoped for and performance has been phenomenal. Cant say enough good about the motor on the Puma FTD… great holeshot, midrange and top end speed… fuel economy is really good as well.JP
I was thinking more along the lines of Ben Stiller in Happy Gilmore!
Anytime… the lake is open until it freezes!
Thanks very much for all the kind words BCB and Spud… fishing with Tater is a bunch of fun and we just love to rib each other! Here is a pic of Taters 5 lb 13 oz fish and another 5 lb 8 oz smallie… Tater goes about 62″ plus and well over a deuce…lol sorry Tater!
Mike, the new season will be starting up the beginning of February 2011. We just finished the studio product shoots and some really cool new shots that will be used for promos and transitions… Tuesday we finish the years filming off in our studio. That will leave us with around two months to edit the shows. JP
Hey Steve, the rear compartments have no organizers but dont need then since they are sized well and your boxes will fit nicely. I too came from a Toon and havent missed the molded organizers one bit.JP
Thanks Ward… lolI actually worked in a Marina for a couple of years tearing down and rigging bass boats and one thing through all those years that stood out in my head from running everyones boats was what ran well and what didnt. My kidneys have taken beatings in just about every bad riding boat out there and when rigging you really get to see what build quality is like when you put your hands into areas you cant see from on top… Bass Cat has always been the best built boat for as long as I can remember.Regarding the motors… youre 100% on the money… I have a Yamaha dealer 15 minutes from my place and I refuse to go to them because they suck… instead I drive an hour and twenty to bring it to another one… these guys work on Merc, Yamaha, Evinrude and Honda and they are the best… They keep everyone happy from all motor families and thats what everyone needs… especially us bass heads who have two speeds in every condition… idle or full throttle!Switching to Yamaha was not an easy decision for me at all since I ran Merc for a long time… I had the first 115 Opti when they came out in Canada (great motor but sluggish out of the hole), a 200 Pro XS 2.5 liter with the Alien Cowl, a 3.0 liter Merc 200, 200 Opti in 2005 and 2 of the 225 pro XSs. I was happy with all but got tired of ordering Premium Plus by the drum since on most years I would run 200 to 250 hours. That and the fact that I got into Dave Mercers boat with the first SHO in Canada, it was never a case of not liking a motor… it was more like going out on a limb and being pleasantly surprised. BRP was very big up here for a while but with the blow ups happening very frequently they have fallen from grace since the days of the first HOs and 7 year warranties. I think they are still in a close race with Yamaha for numbers in the Bass market but Merc owns it. In smaller boats like Aluminum and other pleasure boats its very tight between Yamaha and Merc.JP
The tube style fuse holders are chronically prone to breaking the circuit in rough water or bumps since the fuse is being held in place by a spring… I have removed several from my friends boats and they have never had an issue since.JP
Good luck in the final 12 Mark!
I have used them SuicideNemisis, i really like them for covering a lot of water and have had great luck for both Largemouth and Smallmouth on them. I fish them on a longer rod for casting distance on 14 or 15 lb mono and if I want them down a bit I use fluoro. Rod is a medium heavy, moderate fast action.I have had the chance to fish with the whole Little John series from Spro and really like them. I really get them good on the DD as well.JP
