I have used Startron in my Merc 200 EFI for years now w/ no problems. I use quickleen and Startron together.
Is it a shoot thru the hull or do you have it mounted on the transom (skimmer)? Is this a new install or is it a unit that has worked before and just stopped working? If a new install: If its shoot-thru-hull, it may have air bubbles in the epoxy causing signal loss or could be a location problem. I would think that if its ticking it is sending the sonar pings. If its skimmer on transom, it may be in a bad location that is getting turbulent water causing loss of signal.
You can knock it loose. I usually use a small chisel and a hammer, making sure Im putting the force on the epoxy “seam” and not the fiberglass. It should pop right up. Depending on how much epoxy is stuck to the transducer, you may be able to sand it down and reuse, though youd want to be sure the transducer is OK beforehand. Im not sure thats a recommended practice but Ive done it before and had no problems. BTW….Ive had the best luck with the Lowrance fast-setting epoxy for my lowrance shoot-thru-hull transducer installs.
If its a constant leak, youll see it by spraying Windex on the valve stem. Bubbles will form. Worth a shot and takes no time at all…
Bump for a gorgeous boat. Absolutely stunning!
It hasnt been mentioned yet, but I assume youre keeping the cells filled with distilled water (assuming youre using wet-cell and not AGM)? If you let the water get below the plates, youre guaranteed to have a bad cell.
Just a suggestion, but head over to BBC and check out the Mercury Motor forum (http://www.bbcboards.net/zeroforum?id=53). Theres a Merc master technician by the name of Don Weed that is always answering questions. His screen name is EuropeanAM. Hes a great guy and is always willing to help. Post your problems there and he can point you in the right direction. Hope this helps.
Kevin,Great to see you on the boards and helping a fellow BCB owner. I wanted to let you know that its truly appreciated and confirms that you are a class act. Good luck next year in the Elites. Ill be pulling for you!
I live in Raleigh, NC about 5 mins from Falls Lake and 40 mins from Jordan Lake. You wont find any lakefront property on either lake….Kerr, Gaston, Hyco, Mayo to the N/W are your best bets there or anywhere on the Catawba River chain farther south (James, Hickory, Norman, Mt. Island, Wylie). Falls, Jordan, and Shearon Harris are great fisheries around Raleigh/Durham though. Limit used to be minimum of 16″ fish but they just changed to normal state limits (2 12″, 3 14″). Lots of big fish in all 3. Not uncommon to take 5 fish for 25-30 lbs to win tournaments on these lakes.
Flyswatter,I have a lot of experience with NMEA2000 and have used the Actisense NGW-1 and other network bridges such as the old Simrad AT-10 and Maretron USB100. If you need help figuring anything out or have general questions, let me know.I assume your existing Hummingbird GPS is connected to your unit, so youll need a way to get that data to your NGW-1. Do you have a “repeater” output port on your Hummingbird unit so it can receive the NMEA0183 GPS data and send it back out to the NGW-1? If not, youll need a NMEA0183 repeater. Actisense sells those too. What kind of NMEA2000 network are you running in your boat? The NGW-1 comes with DeviceNet on one end and bare wires on the other. Depending on your network, you may need some adapters as well. Youll also need a NMEA2000 network tee to host the NGW-1 on the network.Hope this helps. If you have further questions or need help, its probably best to shoot me an email (matthewdeese@gmail.com). Ill help you figure it out if needed. Good luck.
Fantastic! Thats only about 15 minutes from me so glad to hear it. I appreciate the responses BCB and Mark! Will call them soon to set it up.
Bravo BCB, Bravo!Cant tell you how great of a boat my PII has been. 17 yrs old and still solid as a rock. Ive had it for the past 13 yrs. One of these days Ill have a new BassCat, but it sure will be hard to part with this one. Its like a fine wine….Last edited by deesel104 on July 17th, 2012, 1:21 am, edited 1 time in total.
I pull my P2 with a 2005 4runner but mine is the AWD V8 version. It pulls and stops great. I also have a 98 Z71 with the 5.7 Vortec. 4runner v8 is stronger but z71 is a little more stable overall. With that said I wouldnt hesitate hauling my boat anywhere with the 4runner. Would recommend the v8 though. Its the smaller iForce v8 used in the Tundra. Just my $.02.Last edited by deesel104 on November 2nd, 2012, 12:41 am, edited 1 time in total.
I have an on board 3-bank 15A Dual Pro charger and used to leave the trolling motor (Tr82) plugged in all the time. After going through two digital lower sections, the motorguide repair place asked me if I left it plugged in during charging. They said some charging waveforms can harm the digital motors. Ive been unplugging it since and no more problems. Just my $.02 but wanted to advise based on my experience with this.
